Please pray for my friend...

Postby Lluvia » Sun Feb 01, 2004 6:51 pm

A friend of mine, William, declares to believe in a god of some sort, but of course, not the on true God. He supposedly is interested in Christianity, but it's difficult for me to determine whether he is interested in it for the good of his salvation, or for the good of his intellect. (A true perfectionist scholar.) So, I ask for you to lift him up in your prayers. Thank you. ^^

The first showed me fame and fortune,

The second wishes to change my defeats.

Can do.

In some ways, I think it's hardest for intellectuals (true, self-avowed or whatever) to give in and submit to God. It's not something you can think through logically to its conclusion, and it's that loss of control to Him that I think is scariest for the highly cerebral.

Absolutely. The issue is a pride issue more than anything, but that is me right there. Its hard giving up control especially when you believe that you always know what is best for you. I have come to realize now that I don't even know what I want, so it's a little easier for me to give in now than it used to be, but it's definitely a struggle for me.

Yes, I concur with shooraijin and Saint Kevin. I've been there, done that. As a skeptic and intellectual, faith was almost difficult to the level of a disability to me--I simply could not seem to grasp or accomplish it. And perhaps I couldn't. Thankfully, God working in me could, and has, and is. I still have growth in front of me, but I have come quite a way thanks to the Lord. I will certainly pray for your friend, Lluvia, as I certainly can empathize with him.

C.S. Lewis set out to disproove the Bible, and ended up becoming the author of Mere Christianity. Any search for knowledge will reveal God in some way or another. ^^ I'll be sure to pray for your friend.
