Truck almost Stolen!

Postby madphilb » Mon Nov 17, 2003 10:05 am

Well, I got ready this morning and went out to get in the truck that my Mom's boyfriend is letting me use (easier/cheaper than selling it to me, etc). The back windows where open, and when I got up to it I saw that someone had tried to steal the truck!

The dumb thing is that I've had my other car in the back for a year, and before that it's been parked both front and back of the house with it unlocked and the windows down already (though it is a piece of junk), and for the last 9 months I've had the chip truck I've been driving parked back there, it too has been left open and nothing was ever stolen out of it.

I've only had the truck for a week (since last monday).

Whoever did it wasn't a pro at it, in fact they I don't think they knew what they where doing... they smashed up the stearing column real bad, but never messed with any of the wiring to hotwire it. My personal opinion is that it must have been kids with a lack of morals and too much TV/movie watching under their belt ;)

I didn't post this in the prayer room, it really isn't a request for much of anything (short of it not happening again and it getting fixed quickly).

I can't drive it right now, so I'm going to have to make do with getting around by bus, walking till then. The worst of that is that I'm supposed to be looking for a new job right now (the chip job is gone, and good riddance! :thumb: )

Oh, well.... gives me more time the next few days to pester everyone on here

Oh, bummer about that. Good thing they never got it going. Most people that do that sloppy of job of trying to break in will just take the vehicle for a joy ride and trash it somewhere.

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

I'm very happy that you got it back. I hope the car is okay to drive real soon! May the best go to you!

Yeah, It's good thing you still have it. I have a friend who has a new PT Cruiser and in the last 3 months its had its tires and roof knifed up by a bunch of vandals with hunting knives, the front end has at least a dozen holes from a crazy Pit bull attack, and both mirrors were slashed off.

Thanks for your support everyone.

We decided not to bother calling the insurance company... technically the truck was "unlocked" since the back window didn't latch (it's wired shut now, so that shouldn't happen again).

My Mom's boyfriend came over today, we had the whole stearing column pulled in about 30-45 min. and took it up to a local used parts shop.

Almost an hour later (and $150+tax poorer) we went home with a new column to put in (took about 1/2 hour to re-install it).

The up side is that the new column has tilt stearing in it (not that I really needed that, but it was the only one they had).

Hopefully no-one will mess with it again.
