Fruits Basket vol 5!!!

Postby Mangafanatic » Thu Sep 30, 2004 7:25 am

Yeah, once you've read it, come here and discuss.

And hurry up about it. I'm about to explode!!! :hits_self
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

So, do we find out more about Akito? Without megaspoilers, are we past the events of the anime in the manga now? (Yes, I know about his, um, that person's little, er, secret.)

I don't! So don't tell me.

No. Akito's not in this one. Well, her's in one frame, but nothing more than that. Sorry, Shooby. I'll tell you when I get upto a volume that has any Akito revelations, k?

What to talk about first?

Well. . .
What do you think of this chick that Shigure is trying to set Hatori up with?
She's cool, but she's not me. ;)
But I loved the fifth manga. ^_^ Ha'ri was sleepin on the couch! I absolutely adore that picture.
Miss Mayuko? that's not really in the fifth volume... but I think she's great! In the tenth one, she is in a whole chapter, and it's very funny!

I think my favourite chapter in #5 is Kisa's chapters. She is so cute, and I love how Yuki tries to open up to make her feel better. ^v^
I have a question: how come if it comes out in October for you, you have read it already?

*stores her copy in a locked safe, then swallows the combination* Sorry, Kisa. ;)

I love Hatori! He's one of my favorite Bishies in the whole world!!!
Well, I just think that chick's too mean for him. And she's not pretty enough. And she's not Kana. What Hatori wants is what Hatori should get.

So, I propose building a time machine and ageing Tohru so she's as old as Hatori. Then Tohru can marry him. Hooray!
In answer to your question Royal wings, my book store stocked it early. Yes, that girl isn't in it much, but she's in enough that was know what's going on
Shigure's gonna set Hatori up with her

I think Miss Mayuko is just fine. How do you know what Hatori wants? he says he doesn't want to be with anyone and just watch over others. Miss Mayuko is funny, and she IS very nice. (Just because she is strict with her students and not as... naive as Tohru, does not mean she is not good enough. You have to expect her to be more mature, she is 27. You can also see that Kana has also changed a little from what she was before...) Please wait until the author goes into it farther. Don't judge her just yet.

And I don't think Tohru should go with Hatori... sorry...

Wow! When it comes with Fruits Basket, it's like my opinions are against everyone else's! >_<;;

In his own way, I guess he will. But they will figure it out. You'll have to wait for 5 more volumes though. ^-^;;
Well, Kisa-chan, I would lend it to you, but...the distance issue is a problem. ^_^
I like Miss Mayuko, too, Royal Wing, so no fear there....I think her and Ha'ri might make a good couple if he would be willing to give it another chance....Am I the only person who does not like Kana?
I'll repeat this question outside the spoiler tag...am I the only person who does not like Kana?

I like Kana. She was sweet, and I don't blame her for forgetting him when he's the one who made her do it.

In answer to your question RoyalWing:
I can't know I don't like her. I didn't mean to say that. . . All I was saying was that she doesn't strike me (on first impression) as someone who's Hatori's type. Can't be sure though.
Oh, ok, MangaFanatic. ^v^

Kana was... too much like Tohru (except Tohru would not say when she meets someone, that everyone thinks he is cute. I thought it was awkward. o__O ) . I thought it was poor character design on the author's part. >w<;; But I am so happy for her, that she is getting married again, and that she has matured a little. Miss Mayuko has not changed though. Shiguré is trying to make her realize that. Now I should just shut because I will give the whole 10 volume away.

Actually, I'm with RoyalWing on this one:
I want Hatori to hook up with Mayuko. Poor Hari's been through so much, and the best way to forget a past love is to focus on a new one. I want to see him happily married and very over Kana by the end. While I sympathize with poor Kana, my heart really goes out to Hatori--I mean, think about it, she gets to forget all about their love, but he has to suffer through with it. ;____; So I hope things work out!

Also, I LOVED the kisa parts! Kisa is one of my favorite characters!

And lastly, the panels on page 168, when Tohru fails her test--that's my reaction! I cracked up because that's exactly how I am after a big test. Ask Gypsy. She's like Uo-chan in those times. ;)

Didn't you just crack up whenever any of the Sohma's asked about Tohru's red mark, and she would jump back. I was about to die laughing.

Oh, and the Yuki fan club! Ah, so hillarious. "What gives her the right to laugh with Prince Yuki? What gives her the right to walk to school with Yuki? And what gives her the right to be so close to the relatives of the divine Yuki?" I loved that whole "Invade the home of the Denpa wave girl" thing. Priceless!
And concerning Hatori, in response to Ashley's question.
If she's make him happy, I'd be thrilled. (Except for--- I want him. AHHH!!!)
As for the Kana issue, I don't blame her for what happened, it was Akito who made her feel horribly guilty and Hari was just helping her to forget to help her, she didnt want to forget, really....
In the version I have, Ayamé says: "You have to respect me!! And in every circumstance, you have to obey me!!" and then Yuki says, "AYAMÉ, YOUR FINAL HOUR HAS ARRIVED!!!" I find it kind of odd to see that the engish version is so different? But it doesn't really matter. ^-^

My absolute, most very very favourite!! part of the whole book is when Ayamé first arrives. When I first read that part, laughed all day. I attached images. I didn't translate them because it was too difficult. o__o;; sorry. But I think you can identify!!
Interestingly enough, the second page you posted is translated differently in the English version. Shigure says "annyeong hashimunika!" and in your copy it says "hast la vista". Ayame's french is still the same though.

Just found that humorous. Personally I loved the ongoing joke about "Jason the Bear"

But what does "annyeong hashimunika!" mean?

Actually I was hoping you could tell me what "annyeong hashimunika" meant.

Yeah the bear line was great--I cracked up at that part of the anime.

While I like seeing the manga and a few scenes that weren't in the anime (
like when Kyo was standing over Tohru and saying something about his feelings in volume 4
) I do hope they get to some new material soon!

hahahah!! It's complete confusion! XD

It's not French, (can't stop laughing!! Don't know why..)

I am pretty sure it's Korean! because I remember my friend saying, to say hello in Korean, it's "annyong!"

After three seconds of research on Google, Super RoyalWing finds the ANSWER!! :jump:

As a former student of Korean, I can tell you that the Korean language has no gender breakdown. It shares many words with Chinese, but also has words of it's own. Where Korean gets tough is with degrees of politesness. Because Korean society is still laregly based on a Confucian social hierarchy (where elders, teachers, and men get more respect than kids and women), how you address someone becomes very dependent on who they are. For example, of you were saying "good day" to a youngster, you could just say "annyong". If you were addressing a colleague of equal rank, you'd say "annyong haseyo". If you were addressing an esteemed older colleaugue, you'd probably say "annyong hashimnika."

I like my Shiguré saying "Hasta la Vista Baby" better. !!

Oooh! that is my second cookie in a short while! Mmm. (^w^) Thank You!

Yes it's hard to wait for a book to come out! But be happy! You're better than me!

This is my situation:

For me, Fruits Basket #9 came out in February. The website I check for new releases is french of course, but the website have to order from is Amazon.ca. These ones have the most random times to decide when to put something in stock. (=_=);; It became in stock on the website a month after it came out! Another comic book I wanted to order has been 'Not Yet Released' for I think a year now. (It was published in France long time ago already.) So now, I am waiting when they'll decide to put up to order #11... (In the summer, I found #9 and #10 in a store! I was so surprised!) It becomes hard to be patient with these things!
