Allow users to edit their own thread titles ^_^

I think this would be benifical for two reasons.

1. If a user makes a typo in a thread thread title they would be able to fix it

2. If a duplicate thread or if someone presses enter too qucikly(this happens all the time) They can actually change the extra thread into a useful thread.

Yes, it would definitely be a nie convenience to edit thread titles :) I dont make many threads (outside the gallery  ) so I cant relate to the typos as well but I'm sure it would be a pain to find out you messed up something (coby's arct thread lol) and not be able to change it.

If it's possible it would be good, especially threads that go off subject enough to qualify for a different title but not a different forum.

Can I throw my support behind this as well? My reason for it, as odd as it sounds at first, would be for the benefit of the search feature. If the title of a thread is misspelled, and then that thread is buried and forgotten about, it may be overlooked by a search so being able to fix said misspellings by the user that started the thread would be nice.

Hmm, if that happens we can notify the moderators and get the member banned for life then we get his/her email and spam him/her to kingdom come. Hmm?
Personally I like the idea of being able to edit our own thread titles. I've made a couple embarressing blunders...

Heheheheh!

Sounds like a good plan but trolls might do worse.

Original Thread Title: Do you love Jesus?
Response: YES!

New Thread Title: Do you like porn?

And the response stays the same. :shady:
I don't know...maybe we should leave it up to the mods.

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

They could do this anyway by editing the initial post in a thread. Not that I want to give them any ideas. :bang: *looks around* Hey are there any trolls in here? Good, go ahead and read this post then.

chaff from the wheat I think...

I'd say, this is something best left to moderators/administrators..

Not that they don't trust you guys, but really, not all CAA members are responsible individuals. Letting the mods/admin handle this alone (along with the issue on locking threads) reduces potential/additional problems that they would need to deal with in the long run.

I disagree Mave, even the editing feature it self can be abused, I don't see why we are allowed to edit posts while not allowing us to correct simple typos in our subject headings. And yes I do realize that people could abuse this feature, but the editing posts feature can be abused too, much eaiser actually then a thread title editing feature because if you edit a post it'd be less visible. BUT if someone edited a thread title it'd be MUCH eaiser to catch.

Alright, before this goes any further consider this an executive "no"--we have enough quirks in the system to deal with at the moment; that's not to say it won't happen eventually, but not right now.

Let me also say the following: couldn't most people be bothered to reread their thread titles? Typos in posts I can understand, and I generally ignore. But if the thread is important enough for you to care about a misspelling, it would be important enough to check, right?

Here, here UC. I'm not sure why people can not do a double check on their thread title. Are you really in that much of a hurry to put up a thread that you can't make sure it is spelled correctly?

Anyways, if you've made such a big mistake and think - its that much of an issue, pm the admin or mods - who are very quick to respond - and ask them to change it for you.

It's something we learn when we go out into the world and become productive adults, there are lines of authority and when you follow those lines of authority and write letters, get responses, and then move forward, you have better chance of success in this world. I consider the effort for us to have our first Ladies Bible study as a good example.

BTW, if there is a mod or admin reading this, could you please edit my thread name in the General section from "Announcement, Women's ...." to Announcement, Young Ladies?" If you could I would appreciate that, since I realized after placing it there that many of those partaking would not be women, but more appropriately be called, young ladies.:) ;)

Anyways, onto this thread. Vyse I'm not sure what you're trying to stir up - more control for you? I just don't see the big deal with being able to edit your own thread title. In fact, if you have to communicate with a mod or admin over a change then it means you will get a chance to get to know said, mod or admin a bit better. Which I'm sure they would enjoy as well.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Chole, I'm VERY offended that you think I'm trying to stir things up, ESPICALLY after we came to some sort of peace or thinking I want more control for my self. Frankly I think it will be best for us to just leave each other alone if you want to keep judging me.

That's a rude and baseless accusation. Vyse isn't starting some kinda title editing crusade, he just suggested that users should be able to edit thread titles. If a user can already edit the content of a thread, there's no reason they shouldn't be able to edit the title. It would make things easier for the users and the mods.

I have a few things to say.

1) true_noir_cloe, it would probably have been best to ask Vyse that via PM.

2) Vyse, your response would have been much better suited there.

3) No harm done, however; merely conclude any further conversation, if such happens, in a more private forum.

4) alf4office (and Vyse), I think you partially misunderstand true_noir_chloe. She wasn't attacking Vyse so much as stating her opinion that there is no good reason for a user to be able to edit their titles (albeit in a slightly forward manner).

5) I still don't see a good reason for giving users the power. If you honestly feel you have one, PM me. However, there will be no changes for the time being.

6) Do not post in this thread, please. This applies to basically anyone. I cannot see how further discussion here could assist any of us.
