Independence Day Haboob!

Postby Dante » Wed Jul 06, 2011 5:36 pm

Ok, so the aliens arrived a day later then they do in the movie, but we got a really awesome looking Haboob that rolled through the valley yesterday. The wind wasn't too intense, but it certainly looked like the end of the world!

In Phoenix Arizona - I saw this giant thing rolling in from the south as I came home from Kmart and thought 'I hope that is just a dust storm and not an evil hailstorm of death ready to destroy my car'.

Wow. That was intense. So what's a Haboob? I thought you just made up a silly name for it. Didn't realise that's what they're called.

Yeah Haboob is another word for a big old dust storm. Arabic - but it sounds really silly frankly. XD

That's insane! It reminds me of old photos I've seen of the dust storms during the Dust Bowl era.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I was camping just past the border(On my way to EllaEdric and TGJesusfreak's ^_^)
There were were fireworks going off every few minutes. It was kind of annoying.

Man, why can't stuff as awesome-looking as that happen here? I don't get to do anything fun. T__T

Seems like you're another Phoenician- three cheers for the monsoon season!

Too early in the season for hail problems in the desert, though there are still some cars driving around that look like they may have been carved out of cellulite... but I digress, the haboob was magnificent! It's name sounds ridiculous and royal all at the same time.

Favorite part has got to be all of the sludgy swimming pools and well-dusted parking lots. Vaguely apocalyptic with so many unwashed and totally dusted vehicles parked around- still waiting for some rain to swing by and wash off my car. looks like clear skies tonight, boo.

Glad to hear you were safe though, Dante. c:

I love the rain ^_^. Of course, that storm last Oct was the worst -

That stated, there are some things I would not do, this is one of them:
