G.I. Joe the Rise of Cobra thread

Postby Gabriel 9.0 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 10:45 am

I know its been quite a while since I've posted anything due ti certain events that occurred in the past months. Anyway its finally out and I can't wait to go see it soon, I heard G.I.Joe is getting good reviews and did the great franchise justice, yeah sure some hold animosity toward it but I still plan to go see it soon and sure I will enjoy it a great deal.

Feel free to share your thoughts and have great Sabbath this Saturday and may you enjoy the weekend:)
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

In all fairness, it was a lot better than I thought it would be. I walked in expecting it to be terrible in the fashion of Transformers 2, but... unlike that film it actually for a brief moment made me feel like a kid again. I mean, yeah, it was primarily just a bunch of explosions with the plot taking the back seat, but ya know, it had the good guys and the bad guys and secret bases and blue lasers and lots of cool vehicles which I'm sure will make for a great line, and ya know, isn't that what G.I. Joe is all about? :)

It looks sort of interesting and I might watch it sometime but I was never a big fan of G.I. Joe or things like that mostly when I was younger I just liked Godzilla.

Good to hear that people enjoyed this. I'll probably check it out when it hits the dollar theater.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. The first twenty minutes where there was all of that poorly written, poorly acted talking were excruciating. ...

but after that, there were lasers, explosions, ninjas fighting, and stuff happening to the Eiffel Tower for basically the whole movie. Other than the fact that
ICE SINKS IN THIS MOVIE? WHAT I DON'T EVEN??
it was pretty darn fun. I saw it with my dad and two years younger brother...it was like 1989 all over again.

They totally ruined Cobra with that new look, but hey he's a bad guy so it doesn't matter so much. :P
I liked it again much better than TF2, and I really loved the Stormshadow/SnakeEyes moments. It's probably my fav part of the film. ^^

I don't think there was a single line in the entire movie that was not cliched and poorly delivered. For that reason alone I highly recommend it; I haven't laughed that hard at a movie in ages.

Add ninjas and numerous explosions and twenty minute long shootouts/car chases (they are practically the same thing in this movie) and Asian martial arts teachers that only speak English and good guys who cause more collateral damage than bad guys and the French getting blown up and there is really no reason not to watch it.

Cobra seriously rocked. I love the voice, "Kill them. Kill them all."

Heh, oh yeah. You can't see that movie expecting to be something amazing, heh. It was pretty much what I expected.

Is it just me or did Channing Tatum seem like he was reading cue cards from behind the director.......and he just learned how to read?

Actually, that is a very accurate description. He was definitely the worst actor, which is unsurprising considering pretty much all the others have had twice as much acting experience as he has.

I don't blame him for his lack of acting experience...

I blame the casting director for putting him in a lead role.

I was never a GI Joe fan as a kid, and well, I'll be honest. When I saw this trailer in the theater and couldn't even tell what movie it was for until the end when the words "GI JOE" flashed on the screen, that's not a good sign. In fact a lot of people apparently thought it was for a Crysis movie. Maybe they actually tried to make a Crysis movie but couldn't get the rights so they slapped the GI Joe name on it.

I'll just stick with the Chainsaw Suit rendition of the movie which I am sure is better:

Still happy to have watch GI Joe: Resolute animation movie on Adult Swim back in April, then I had a friend drag me to go and see GI Joe: Rise of Cobra movie.

GI Joe: Resolute was a much better movie then this one.

I remember Penny Arcade mentioning GI Joe Resolute a long while back, I've heard nothing but good things about it. I'll have to check it out.

G.I. Joe sequel in the works

Postby Roy Mustang » Mon Aug 17, 2009 12:16 pm

Sci Fi wire wrote:Paramount Studios' vice chairman Rob Moore has told the LA Times that a sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is about to go into development.

The cast have all inked deals that require them to appear in the next film, though director Stephen Sommers, who previously was able to launch The Mummy as a franchise, has no such provision in his contract.

No word yet on what the premise of the sequel will be. But as the first movie deals with the rise of Cobra, the organization that stood in opposition to the Joes in both the wildly popular animated show of the 1980s and the related comic book series, there are plenty of possibilities.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra raked in approximately $100 million dollars worldwide over its opening weekend, even though it has yet to open in other key foreign markets, like Germany and Italy.

Wow! I'm glad I was not the only one who noticed his acting. Everyone else in the movie was clearly above him in acting ability. Maybe they should should have got Chris Evans or James Franco instead. They're in a lot of special effects explosive thrill ride type of movies.
