Showbread -- The Fear of God

Postby Radical Dreamer » Mon Jul 20, 2009 4:43 pm

Due to some honest misunderstandings, a link to a new, leaked Showbread song was posted in the thread that was clearly made before this one. To keep in line with CAA policy and to prevent further problems regarding the old thread, we've made this new thread for further discussion of the new album. Here, once again, is the first post, as written by Cognitive_Gear:</modnote>

Cognitive_Gear wrote:Showbread's upcomming album "The Fear of God" has had it's track list announced.

1. I'm Lost
2. Nothing Matters Anymore
3. Lost Connection With The Head
4. Regret Consumes Me
5. Out Of My Mind
6. Vehement
7. The Great Emasculation
8. Shepherd, No Sheep
9. Let There Be Raw
10. I Think I'm Going To See You
11. Precursor
12. The Fear Of God
13. Until We Meet Again

Source.
They have also posted the lyrics for the song, "Nothing Matters Anymore".

This summer has been incredible, musically. It looks like this will be yet another fantastic summer '09 release.

Continue to discuss~!

All that being said, they have a new song on their MySpace, "Lost Connection With the Head." It's pretty daggum awesome. XD

Yeah, sweet song...Isn't that going to be their new music video?
"Who is this?" they said to Me
'That the wind and waves obey
Come, let's hang Him on a tree
That His reign should pass away'
But here I am I say to you
Though you turn away, it is My will
To love you for forevermore
Peace be still, peace be still

That's the weakest new track I've heard.

The first leaked track should be their single.

Favorite song yet. "The Great Emasculation" was good, but not this good.

New song "Vehement" on their myspace.

It is my least favorite yet, I am afraid. Too repetitive.

Yeah, Vehement is alright. It's pretty catchy. I think I'll enjoy it more once I see how it fits into the context of the record.

Just picked it up at Best Buy. I'm kind of happy that, when I saw the disc, I was like "WAIT this looks JUST LIKE No Sir, Nihilism--oh wait." XDD I can't wait to listen to it. XD

EDIT:

Oh, also? I would just like to say that, regarding Let There Be Raw: I so, so called it. XDD

Good good stuff. It's pretty rad. I need to give it a few more listens before a real judgement on it. But regardless it's one of the best CD's of the year already.

This CD is definitely amazingtastic. The only song that I don't really like much is "Shepherd, No Sheep." Which isn't bad but doesn't nearly live up to the rest of the album.

Oh man, I think that song is fantastic. XD It's so catchy. In fact, those four songs around the middle of the album, including "The Great Emasculation," "Shepherd, No Sheep," "Let There Be Raw," and "I Think I'm Going to See You," very well might be my favorites, along with The Fear of God. I love this album, though; I've been listening to it a lot and I think it's so excellent. XD

You guys might know this but showbread has released the video for "Vehement". Video here
The video is very unique; I like it.
Also, they were working on "Lost Connection With the Head".
"Who is this?" they said to Me
'That the wind and waves obey
Come, let's hang Him on a tree
That His reign should pass away'
But here I am I say to you
Though you turn away, it is My will

This CD is okay.

I've come to terms with the fact that

A) Tae is gone

and

B) They will never be able to touch No Sir, Nihilism is Not Practical.

The Nine Inch Nails influence laced throughout the "post-Tae" era of Showbread is too consistent to attempt to ignore.
And I don't think Showbread pulls it off that well.
I'd rather have them rip off Refused than Nine Inch Nails because I feel as if Showbread was better at playing Refused's style than Refused was but....

" when it comes to trying to top nine inch nails,
showbread fails

I'm fully aware that music is bashing their fans that only want them to play No Sir over and over again.

I don't want to hear No Sir again.

I want to hear them be themselves and pull off an album that's just as good as that one.
And the Fear of God, in my opinion (which I'm entitled to have), musically doesn't live up to it.

I don't care what style they run with. As long as it's good.

Was I coming across as arrogant or prideful?

If I was, I never intended to.
I'm just the kind of guy that throws his exact opinion out there when asked and never sugar coats anything.

Personally, I'm glad that Showbread strayed away from the Refused esque sound.
"Age of Reptiles" was an extremely catchy, fun album while didn't live up to No Sir, was still great in it's own way.

However, when Anorexia-Nervosa was released, you could tell Josh Dies has been listening to ALOT of Nine Inch Nails, and I just don't feel like Showbread pulls off that influence well.

The influence, while far more subtle, is smudged all over The Fear of God, and it kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to their music.

However, they pull off the Weezer touch quite well.

So yes, I enjoy The Fear of God.
However, I feel as if it is fair to compare to their old material seeing how it is the same band and quite frankly, my expectations were far too high.
