Author's Note: Does no one wonder or care about Argus Filch, caretaker of Hogwarts? I didn't either, until I wrote this.

One might have said of Argus Filch that he “hated Christmas, the whole Christmas seasonâ€
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

"There's a difference between maliciously offending somebody - on purpose - and somebody being offended by...truth. If you're offended by the truth, that's your problem. I have no obligation to not offend you if I'm speaking the truth. The truth is supposed to offend you; that's how you know you don't got it."

Interesting. Filch in juxtaposition with Christmas carols feels so odd. You do a good job of getting inside the character and fleshing out a back story while also developing the current character.

I haven't ever heard this carol:
'Once in royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her baby in a manger for his bed:
Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.'

[i]Two vast and trunk-less legs of stone stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, half sunk, a shattered visage lies. Round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare the lone and level sands stretch far away. On the pedestal these words are inscribed:

“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!â€

Thanks for the comments! To use Rowling's words, when I started writing this story, Argus Filch just sort of "walked into my mind, fully formed."

Really? You've never heard "Once in Royal David's City"? It's been a favorite of my family's for almost as long as I can remember, so I guess I'd just assumed it was popular everywhere. If I was with you in person, I'd sing it for you ^_^
