Wind-up’s #1 Debut Could Hit 400k, The Killers, George Strait, Beck, Monica and Jet Also Headed for Bows

There’s nothing evanescent about Evanescence.
Amy Lee’s reconstituted goth band is targeted for the #1 spot on next week’s chart with Wind-up’s The Open Door headed for anywhere between 375-400k, based on first-day sales figures from all retailers still taking our calls. That’ll be good enough to top Island Vegas rockers The Killers’ Sam’s Town, which appears bound for a #2 debut, with upwards of 320k.

MCA Nashville’s George Strait is right behind those two with an estimated 260-280k for his latest, It Just Comes Natural. He can say that again. Interscope’s Beck comes with The Information, which looks headed for 100k, as does J diva Monica’s The Makings of Me.

Elektra’s Jet (50-60k), RCA Nashville’s Chris Young (40-50k) and Verity gospel great Fred Hammond (30-35k) are also assured of Top 50 debuts. Also on tap: Concord's Ray Charles/Count Basie posthumous collaboration (30k), Virgin's Sleepy Brown (25k) and Interscope blue-eyed soul man Robin Thicke (15-20k).

Next week, J Records' Rod Stewart, Sony BMG Nashville's Jimmy Buffett, G Unit/ Interscope's Lloyd Banks, Rowdy/Universal Motown's Sammie, a Christmas album from SBMG Nashville's Brad Paisley and a Deutsche Grammophon album featuring Sting with strings hit retail shelves.

Overall, the market was up 3% vs. last week, down 4% vs. same week last year and now down a little over 5% to date.

Decent opening for the band.

Good stuff! That's great! I heard samples of their cd on Amazon but while samples are good for a taste, its very hard to determine whether a song is good or bad from a 30 second snippet. From what I've heard it sounds different to their other stuff, but still very good. I think it will take some time getting used to, but it'll probably be a keeper.

The CD has been in my truck, computer, and bedroom since I got it. I love it more everytime I hear it. I think it has shades of the vocal sound of Origin...and I adore the new guitars. One thing I read off the Ev boards that I thought was cool....(skip this part if you don't like secular music)

I guess on the Rock Am fest event in Europe, Evanescence was suposed to go on before Korn. When Amy Lee found out about this, she refused to go on before Korn and gave Korn the spot, then they played. Showing respect for Korn. You rarely see respect like this in music anymore. And I thought it was pretty cool. (In other news, John of Korn loved Amy Lee's verson of Thoughtless from Ev's Anywhere but home project)

Dude, I totally stayed at Hastings until about thirty after midnight. I really really like it. I like it much better than Fallen, which was a great record don't get me wrong I love that one too, but The Open Door is much much better. I haven't heard Origin so I can't say anything about that one. But uh yeah. So far my two favorite tracks on it are Sweet Sacrifice and Lithium. How about you guys?

My favorites atm are Lithium (deffenately been playing this one the most) and Snow White Queen.

This album is deffenately growing on me. I mean I liked it alot at first but it was still "different" and all but now I can't stop playing it Call Me When You're Sober still my least favorite... don't know why they picked that one for the single honestly, there are so many better ones on there.

I gotta be honest, this album really doesn't excite me. Yes, Amy has the stellar voice, same as ever, but after getting a better taste of the genre of music she plays, I gotta say, there is most assuredly better out there.


Then again, ever since Jamie (Kkun) turned me onto indie rock, I've not been able to wrap my head round much else, so......meh.

A couple things.

First, Origin was just a demo disc, and Amy doesn't consider it an actual album as a result.

Second, you can download it (and their older stuff) anywhere. That website was made by fans.

On that note, I should introduce you guys to an Electro-goth group called Collide at http://www.collide.net where you can download some tracks for free. I strongly suspect a lot of you Evanescence fans here will really like their music. I'd play 'em at Seraphim, but I just haven't got around to buying any CDs.

As to the Indie music and your project, I should warn you that the prepatory phase for my station was a very long one (maybe a year and a half of collection before I had a clue where it was all going). Still, I'm willing to tell you everything I know and help you out if you're going to go ahead.

Anyway, I finally scrounged the money together to buy Open Door. I've only listened to it once through so far but I notice so of the songs are great and some are fairly ho hum. But I'm going to give it another whirl. I'm sure it's one of those albums that just takes time to get used to and enjoy all that more (example: I hate Origin when I download it legally, but now I play it almost all the time).

And before I forget, I'm having trouble finding the Amy Lee Interview on the cd. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I love Evanescence...but in regards to that I was a little disapointed with the album myself. The music is very good although I do preferr the their first. The most of the songs were about boyfreind troubles that just bored me. I mean the things that were expressed by her I sure were traumatic for her but I just wanted to hear more than just that...

Can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet.

I like The Open Door about as equally as Origin.

Why I like The Open Door:

-More piano
-More complicated melodies (showing off Amy's talent to the nth degree)
-Orchestral elements very well integrated with the song/band
-The experimental sound in some of the tracks
-Amy's vocals are as strong as ever
-Mozart.

Favorite songs: Sweet Sacrifice (could have been longer though!) Call Me When You're Sober, Lacrymosa, The Only One

Why I like Origin

-stripped down sounds awesome
-additional male vocals
-good lyrics
-very fresh-sounding and unscripted
-an INSTRUMENTAL, wow
-I like the electronic/industrial sound as well.

Favorite songs: Imaginary, Even in Death, Lies, Away from Me

I don't like Fallen anymore. Sure, it got me into Evanescence, but my love for it died when I a) listened it to death and b) heard Origin. In comparison, Fallen sounds very sterile musically and very stale lyrically/emotionally. A lot of potentially good guitarwork was drowned out by orchestra rather than enhanced by it a la The Open Door. The drumming sounded very basic too. The best songs really are the two piano songs. Also, "Whisper" makes a better opening than closing.
Origin and The Open Door are good examples of cohesive albums, while Fallen seems more like a collection of songs strung together. Probably because Ben Moody was more commercial-minded anyway (apparently he's done work for Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson [I think], that ought to explain it.)

I love Amy's vocals on CD, but she's horrible live. That bad performance on Anywhere But Home sadly wasn't a fluke.

Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil is better.

I hate to disappoint you, but Nightwish kicked her out of the band.
