Dragonball Original Episodes 1-13 uncut on DVD from Funi... it exists!

Postby Azier the Swordsman » Thu Aug 17, 2006 3:48 pm

It's common knowledge that the first 13 episodes have never been on DVD uncut due to screwed up liscensing. (KidMark owns the DVD rights and has their own edited version.) But, as I've found out, this only applies to America. Today, on a whim, I poked around a Region 4 DVD website (Australia, New Zealand) and found out I was right!

So, all other fellow DB fans with the gap in their collections now have a good alternitive. (Don't forget to get region free DVD players.)

That's not fair. Stupid licencing problems -_-.

I wouldn't be surprised if those DVDs work on normal DVD players here though. I'm pretty sure that all the official Funi DBZ DVDs are actually Region 1, 2, AND 4 (the DVDs have 3 little symbols down at the bottom at least).

How do you alter your region setting on the DVD player?

The easiest thing to do is buy a region free player off of eBay. (You can get them pretty cheap.) I am not sure how to tweak a region 1 player to another region.

You can also tweak the region setting on your computer. Be warned you can only do this a few times before the computer locks you from changing the region again.

Rocketshipper is correct about the North American releases playing on 1, 2 and 4. I assume the Australian/New Zealand releases all the same. I plan on finding out for certain when I get my next paycheck.

I just got my copy in the mail today... apparently it IS region locked. I had to dust off my region free player for it. Also noticable is that the Australian DVDs are apparently digitally remastered while the American versions use the original granier cuts.

But, anyways, now I own the complete original series uncut. Yay for me.

I got my Region Free player back on eBay for $30 when DVD players were retailing in stores for $300.

I have a DVD player program on my computer called DVD X Player that can be set to any region, or even to completely ignore region coding.

the PS2 gameshark allows you to hack the region codes and play them. That's what I would use.

That's actually good to know. My player is so old it's starting to not work as well. Gotten to where it has trouble reading the disks sometimes.
