ehhh it was okay.... didn't end the way I wanted it to, and since I hadn't seen the series for more than a year I was kinda out of sorts. I'm reading the manga now and the storyline is so different.... so far I prefer the manga.

Bottom line - not the most amazing movie and an unsatisfactory ending (even though, thank goodness, it did end it).

I just finished watching the movie!!!

Here are my thoughts:

Overall I give the movie an A-.

I loved it a lot! and I guess for someone who hasn't read the manga, It was a great ending to the story. (I don't have time right now for the manga LOL)

I loved how they tried to keep in the same time frame as Nazi Germany....but this one thing made me die a little inside:
THE MADE HUGHES A NAZI!!!!!! (ok so he isn't the REAL hughes that we all know and love.. BUT STILL!
I watched the dub, mainly because hey, I love the dub! But one thing kinda drove me a bit insane!!

They call Colonel Mustang (which they clearly called him in the series's english version as well) GENERAL MUSTANG! I was a bit confused...did he ever become a general? :?

But yeah...overal.. GREAT MOVIE if you love FMA, and you don't care that it's not the same as the manga...WATCH IT!!!

I so want to see the dub of this movie, but until Blockbuster online actually gets it and ships it, I have to wait until I get my limited edition version of the movie..........IN NOVEMBER! @_@

By the by, Mustang became a General
at the end of the series, when the Fuhrer was going to send him and now Lt. Col. Armstrong to do battle with the North.
I also gotta wonder why
People keep calling Armstrong Major throughout the movie since he's no longer in the military.
Well the same reason people referred to Eisenhower as General even after he retired from the military.Partly respect and partly force of habit.

I was actually sorta hoping this thread would become a discussion of the content of the movie as well as what happened when I went there. I'm only posting this link because it's on the first page:

http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=36409&page=2

I thought it was a great movie that didn't need to exist, but I'm glad it did. While I prefer the overall series better, the movie as a whole had a nice plot and the voices were dubbed to perfection with some exceptions (no German accents?).

Anyways, great movie. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

yeah I posted this because um...it's actually out on DVD now...^^;

I thought it was an awesome ending! I know a lot of fans are a bit unhappy about it...and I guess I want to know why?

I mean it might not have the same ending as the manga would. But was the Anime EXACTLY like the manga? I don't think so...so of course it won't have the same ending.

the way i look at it is a new way to see fma in a different medium. Almost like an alternate ending.

To quote (more or less, I don't remember his exact words) Vic:
The ending is realistic, in that it shows in the real world, nothing ever comes without a price. Sure, Ed and Al are together, but at the cost of losing everyone else.
Content of the movie, Tom? A big thing my brother and I talk a lot about FMA is Ed's assertion in episode 1, "this isn't witchcraft," and the movie, I think, plays this out well. A character who learns alchemy is surprised to realize "there's no spells." We get to see a mixture of alchemy and witchcraft in the villain. Interestingly enough, since alchemy is not a scientific principle in our world, using alchemy in our world seems to be witchcraft after all, and Ed does not approve.

I agree animus!! (nice quote from Vic too! :D )

One thing that I thought was interesting was:
When the Villian called Ed and Al "Monsters" and then when she comes back to our world everyone thinks that SHE is the monster. I think that tied in really well with the Racism of Nazis and how they treated the Jews.
Overall, I really think this movie had a lesson that we all needed to learn. We are all humans, no matter our shape our color, or our creed.

Great movie. I loved it. The artwork was really good and way better than the TV shows artwork, which was still great.

I give it a 9/10.

not to mention
the fact taht she had alchemic powers so technically she was like them then she was calling them monsters for using alchemy and she was using it too. :p
the only part that could have been different was
when Ed and Al got trapped on the other side of the gate and could never go back to their world. it was a bittersweet ending. i mean the brothers now get to live with each other again but they will never get to see the rest of their friends (not counting when they may see them in their world becuase they dont know them the same way)
[as soon as i bought this movie i ran home to watch it. lol this is one of the best anime endings and movie i have seen in a while. the only part that could have been different was]

OMGOSH! My dad watched it with me and my sis on Friday and he LOVED it. He commented "It makes me want to watch the entire series again!"

That surprised me! I didn't think he liked FMA that much..so when I asked him why he did he answered, "I just had to find out what happened to Ed and AL!"

*feels so proud of her daddy! KYAA*

He also sat with me through the "Making of The Movie" extra, that, might i add, was in Japanese!"

It amazes me that they didn't really get started on it till about 8 months prior to release, and they didn't start animating it till around 5 months prior to release...O_o they work fast!

If there is one word to describe this movie, it would be... refreshing. It wasn't exactly spectacular, but the main plot was done well. And it definitely felt different from the series...which isn't a bad thing at all.
I loved the prevailing concept behind the movie. The whole "rise of the Nazi party" was woven well into the story. One thing I didn't get was the Thule Society getting the Uranium Bomb from "Shamballa". Doing so would screw up history, because the Uranium Bomb wasn't first made until after WWII, according to my knowledge. (And yeah, I didn't like that the Hughes counterpart was a Nazi.) o_<:;:;

Anyways, I liked the fact that Wrath was in it for a decent amount of time. The main problem with the movie, I think, was that there wasn't enough of the Rockbells, the Military, and the Sins (and Black Hayate [he was never in it!] and Den) . I would have liked to see Envy and Hohenheim with a bigger part, and maybe see more of Wrath. But, oh well. At least Ed and Al got the full treatment.
