The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Postby AngelSakura » Wed Sep 06, 2006 12:31 pm

In a (vain?) effort to do something about the amount of talking to myself about the Red Hot Chili Peppers I have to do, I just wanted to see how many Rockinfreakapotami we have lurking around here. I did a fairly open forum search and got maybe twenty posts, so I thought, "There's hope yet!" XD

I myself can't claim to be any kind of long-time fan (I wasn't even born when Blood Sugar Sex Magik came out... >.>), but I make up for it in devotion, I think. I went to my first RHCP concert this July and it was amazing. I dunno, it was crazy, man. I can't really describe it. XD;; My favorite album of those I've heard -- Blood Sugar Sex Magik through Stadium Arcadium -- is the former, and I tend to favor their older stuff, although Californication is my second favorite. I would have difficulty picking a favorite song, but I like "Apache Rose Peacock", "Around The World", "Don't Forget Me", "Can't Stop" and "My Friends" especially. Unlike a lot of the more well-versed fans, I actually have a fondness for One Hot Minute, although I can't deny it was...odd.

Everyone seems to have a pet band member, so I'll save time and declare my Kiedis-love right now. XD (waves a little flag that says "WE LESS-THAN-THREE ANTWAN") Not that I have anything against the rest of the band -- love 'em. It wouldn't be the same without this lineup. But you know. He's just...Anthony. XD;;

Enough about me. You?

EDIT: Not quite enough about me, apparently. Just wanted to add that my favorite videos are "Can't Stop", "Love Rollercoaster", "True Men Don't Kill Coyotes", and "Californication".
Think happy thoughts.

Stadium Arcadium is a great CD. I think "Dani California" is the only example of a song from a band that has been around for more than a decade that has proven to be the ban's best work when when recent. If that made any sense, I applaud the band.

"By the Way" was cool too.

I have a love/hate relationship with Stadium Arcadium. On the one hand...closer to the whole funk-rock thing than By The Way, something I was totally missing on that album. On the other hand, maybe it'll just take a little getting-used-to, but I don't like it even as much as I did like By The Way. I'm confusing myself on this one. There are good songs on it, sure, but it's just...eh.

(♥'s "Otherside") I heard this car go speeding by the other day blasting "Otherside" on the speakers. It was like "ladhglsdhglksfdglsdf".

The only song I really like of theirs is "Californication"... albeit, I haven't listened to very many of their songs but out of what I have, Californication is by far my favorite.

"Californication" makes me happy. Good times. Not a huge fan of the bleach-blonde on Anthony, but who's asking me. XD Really good video.

I love them too. :D

I have to agree, I really liked Californication. Overall I've always respected the guys ^^

"Dani California" was really catchy but I was kinda turned off by it after noticing freakish similarities to Tom Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance" :eyebrow:

Meh. Evidently Tom Petty wasn't too fazed by it. They're bound to run out of original chord arrangements eventually. It's allll about the permutations.

After 23 years, they really do command some respect. 1983 to 2006 and still going strong.

Now that you mention it, I've heard that all over the place, but I never actually looked into the Tom Petty song since I assumed it was an overreaction, as these things often are. Lemme just see, since you have the link...

(waits ten years for it to load)

Eh, that'll do. Yeah, there is a similarity...a strong one...but if Tom Petty doesn't care, what difference does it make? I forget what statement the band themselves made on the subject, if any...I just remember that Mr. Petty decided not to sue... I should go look it up.
