Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone else out there had seen this exceptional series. As far as story goes, I'd have to say this is one of, if not the best animes out there :) Anywho, here's a <link> to a music video that I've watched over and over since finishing the series, it perfectly sums it up, and to a song by Jars of Clay as well ^^

Yeah, I saw it right after it came out. I enjoyed this series a lot and, actually, wrote a review for it.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

That is a really good AMV^^ Though it should be noted that there IS a bit of split-second undetailed nudity in it (for if anyone else was interested and wanted to know about content). The AMV has a ton of stuff from the movie, which I really enjoyed but heard that others... not so much.^^ I do realize that there was some... content issues in it too, but past that I thought it was a really good movie^^ The TV was great too, but certain arcs I was :/ about (the crow one, in specific).

Aha, I've seen that AMV. It's quite good! And the anime (series) is in my top 5 favorite anime. I discovered this series (more was introduced to this series, by none other than Osaka :) ) last summer, and I fell in love with it! The art is gorgeous, the story is captivating (not to mention tear-jerking), the music fits perfectly, and the characters are all very interesting. I really hope someone decides to license it soon, because I'd love to own it! Such a great series! :thumb:

Far and away, the best anime I have ever seen. An incredibly complex storyline, very likable characters, and THE most heartwrenching ending of all time.

I tear up everytime I hear "Aozora". No joke.

If you liked Air, check out the new Kanon anime this fall. It's sure to be up your alley.

I've got the old Kanon, but haven't delved into it yet. And yes, Aozora is one of my favorite japanese songs, I've even got my favorite line from it in my sig :) I'm writing a vid to it, a sort of replacement for the scenes that use it in the show w/ a recap/best memories view instead of something from Misuzu's childhood :)
As for the AIR Arc, the part where Yukito became Sora (the crow), there's a detailed explination page I've collected from some other message boards I can post if anyone wants to know the reasoning behind that and other things. For now, I'll say that he became a crow so he could take the happy memories Misuzu had with him up to the girl in the sky, so she too could have happy memories and finaly be free :)
edit: Why won't it show my sig???

Actually, I thought the ending was irritating and unexceptional.
Seriously, the main character DYING? Talk about freaking cliches. I was HOPING they would keep her alive, maybe not fulfill the whole Kana thing or whatever, but at least have some sort of CLOSURE on the whole thing. But no, they up and kill her, and I saw it coming a mile away. I remember sitting at my computer and literally screaming at my monitor "IF SHE DIES I WILL HUNT ALL THE WRITERS DOWN AND MURDER YOU." So she died. And I still haven't gotten that plane to Japan...yet. But they will die by my hands. Oh yes. They will.
Anyway, yeah. The ending was cliche, and that's why I didn't like it. Actually, AIR was pretty much my favorite anime, up until the Summer Arc. After that it went downhill for me. But the characters were awesome, and the music was excellent, to be sure.

Your theory for Sora is the exact same as mine, that's why I think the end is rather bittersweet.
kaemmerite, I know a lot of people who assume that the "Goal!" ending was a cop-out, but that's actually what goes down in the original game. It's not really a cliche either. Yukito said that Misuzu was going to die. She made a friend and set into motion her own downfall. Even though Haruko wanted to take everything back and be happy with her, it was already too late. I look at Misuzu sort of as a loss for the greater good. She is at peace now with happy memories at last, and Sora was able to go to Kanna, and (hopefully) free her of her curse
My boyfriend and I recently blew through this series a few days ago, and I was incredibly impressed with it. I didn't know whether to beat the dude with a pillow for making me cry so much or hug him for introducing me to a truly awesome anime. Now yes, it really made my brain hurt a few times--sometimes I wondered if Yukito and/or Sora were actually real--and I really loved how everything came together in the...um...well, whatever arc it was that Ryuuya and all were in. I loved seeing all the little details come flying together.

I thought there wasn't enough development in the plot with what happened in the past to what was occuring in the present with Misuzu. Plus it was incredibly depressing, and at times painful to watch because it was so boring.

But overall I guess I enjoyed it.
