A good anime for guys?

Postby Momo-P » Thu Aug 03, 2006 5:54 pm

Sometime ago I asked for suggestions for myself, but now I'm asking suggestions for my boyfriend. ^^; My boyfriend and I have been together for almost four years now and I love him so much, he's been really supportive of me putting God above all else. Unfortunately though, his taste in anime happens to end him up in perv territory quite often.

Some animes he really likes are Digimon Savers (and all other digimon anime), s-CRY-ed, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Big O, etc. and those titles I have no problem with him liking. As anyone knows however, the stuff found in these animes are all very male driven, so anything out there similar to it is obviously going to have another favorite of guys--skimpy dressed women. 8D...blah.

The titles above do have women in them obviously, but none of them really get carried away with it like most shounen titles. So anyone have any suggestions? Anything that aired on cartoon network or AS is probably not a good thing to mention since he's pretty much seen all of that, and I know he's really not into girly stuff (he's a huge fan of american comics though), so I just don't know what to do. :/

Also one last thing to add, he does love humor. Despite Fruits Basket's girlyness, he actually did pick the manga of it up for the humor, so if it's really funny, but kinda girly it should be ok to add.

Well if he likes humor of course there's always Tenchi Muyo (and Tenchi Universe) I'm a guy and I liked both (but since it was on toonami he's prolly seen it) Ranma 1/2 is pretty funny (a bit of nudity to it though) Comic Party, should be perfect, stuff like Love Hina, or Sakura Diaries is prolly what you wanna avoid.

But if ya wanna shy away from traditional violence and comedy, something like xxxHolic or Lain have great storylines. Hard to tell what someone will like before they try it, I say go to a library rent the first volume of a few of these, try it out with him, or have him watch them, you'll know where to go from there. Best of luck to you.

It all depends on what he usually perfers to watch. It is hard to try suggestions for people you don't know though.

How about Rurouni Kenshin (wow, I think this is the third time I've reccommended it today. XD)? It's a samurai anime, and it's quite good. It's also clean; women are treated with respect, and the most scantily clad character appears for a relatively short time (by scantily clad, I mean a kimono that comes quite low on the shoulders and shows some cleavage). It's a very good series, and one that you could probably watch together, as it has about the same number of male and female fans alike. Hope that helps! :thumb:

One Piece (the original) is good for everyone. o.o/

Nice action, story, great humour throughout, and typically pretty lighthearted (a few 'darker' moments, but they often end up broken by something; usually involving Luffy XD ). A bit of cleavage throughout, but it's not really "focused on" as much as some are.

Samurai 7 and Last Exile are a couple that come to mind.

Yeah, man, G Gundam is like the most awesome thing ever. I'd suggest that one as well.

If you want some real, um, manly anime, there's always Fist of the North Star, as long as you don't mind all of the exploding people and stuff (it's pretty bloody).

If you enjoy being really depressed, get him some Now and Then, Here and There.

Paranoia Agent will forever change his life.

And so will the manga (and unreleased anime) "Monster".

But I don't know if he's into psychological thriller like I am, so I recommend the basic Naruto/One Peice/Rurouni Kenshin/Bleach shonen stuff.

D.N. Angel, Azumanga Daioh, Naruto, Rouroni Kenshien, Esca Flowne(sp?), Mai Hime, and Inuyasha are really good ones.

I'm gonna mention FullMetal Alchemist, but i'm sure he's seen those. (i think the manga's better than the anime, but that's just me)

I would think if he's been around anime for awhile (and it looks like he has according to the OP)...then he's aware of Inuyasha.

I'd recommend Gundam Wing. I don't know a bunch of shonen titles... If no one's recommended Yuu Yuu Hakusho, I will. Yuusuke's a bit of a perv, and there's a couple things, but I don't think it's too bad. The manga's cool, and less dragging than the anime. Sometimes the shonen are better than the shoujo - less homosexuality, 'cept in the fangirl arenas (GWing or YYH, anyone?). 'Least of what I've seen. I'll PM the other one.
"You've gotta speak about those things you don't currently see as though they already exist. Back in the beginning, God didn't look into space and say, 'Gee, it's dark.' He called light into existence."

Gotta Getta Gundam. ;)

I am definately going to recommend Full Metal Alchemist.

After reading the list your boyfriend likes, it appears he wouldn't want to get into a REALLY LONG series that involve boys going on adventures to save the world such as One Piece and Naruto.

FMA is a fairly long anime, but not too long, 52 episodes completely. the manga has a different story and is now 61 chapters long without about 30-40 pages per chapter, with about four chapters per volume.

FMA is a very good series with a detailed plot, the hilarious slapstick humor that makes One Piece and Naruto so good, and a terrific cast of characters.

I think you guys might have missed this part, most of your suggestions are Cartoon network shows, but anyways, as was previously said, it's hard to guess what someone will like, it's near impossible to guess what someone you don't know will like.

I noticed that but since I've never seen Cartoon Network (cable is very expensive in Aus) I don't know what anime has been on it and what hasn't.
