Jaci Velasquez . . .

Postby Kisa » Tue Jan 27, 2004 7:16 pm

Hey who here is Jaci Velasquez fans? I am until her most recent stuff. I heard that she was in a pretty lousy movie a bit ago and I looked into it and now I feel like she has to secularize (is that a word) herself to sell music. I think if youre a Christian artist you are doing it to witness to others and glorify God, not just to make money . . . *sigh* oh well . . .

I've been to like three Jaci Velasquez concerts. I think she's great. I saw the movie, "Chasing Papi" that she was in and she actually did a pretty good job - way better than Brittney. I don't know if she's selling out. I haven't really paid attention to her for awhile. I saw that movie as trying to sell the strong Latina woman more than anything else. I'm sure that was what drew her to the movie and it's definitely what drew me to seeing the movie, since I'm a Latina woman myself. ^_^

I agree with this. That is the only reason to be a Christian musician, not to mention I've heard there's not a lot of money in it anyway. *heh*

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

There are a few of her songs I really enjoy, but I don't own any of her CDs. I've seen her interviewed on TV about "Chasing Papi", and the host was sort of teasing her about being a christian. Still, they talked about her CDs on the show, and she sang for a bit, and hopefully that was enough to get some non-believers listening to her music. :)

Yea, the good thing probably about that movie was that it would bring more people into Christian music . . . ^_^
