Paranoia Agent is very episodic, right? Good for shorter attention spans, possibly? I really don't know very much about it, because the one episode I saw had major adult content, so I didn't watch any more. Also, I didn't like the animation style - thought the character renderings were ugly. Which I think was intentional.

GITS is also highly episodic, at least having the stand-alones mixed in with the complex ones.

Some of you who have seen Monster would know if it tends to be episodic or if the plot builds through the episodes.

What I think we're not going to see too much of for a while from Adult Swim is the Witch Hunter Robin or even Wolf's Rain serialized sort of stuff where you have to keep watching the story to figure it out. Of course, they're still showing Eva, right? But Eva has so many different levels...even if one doesn't get the bigger picture one can still watch it for the action (ok, I know I need to get off that specific topic).

oh well. i've never seen an entire episode of paranoia agent either and when i actually saw part of the anime, i didn't even know what it was and it also contained adult content so i changed the channel after watching about five minutes of it. that, however was a long time ago. when i read the review on this site for paranoia agent, i knew right there that that was the anime i was watching. anyways, it's just my opinion that monster should be in adult swim.

PA isn't bad but it isn't IMO as good as Lain, then again Lain is one of my favorites.
Right now they're going through Paranoia Agent again after having finished it on Monday.Any one interested in a bit of trivia, the chief detective's name is Keiichi Ikari.
btw:Anyone else notice the horrible bit of editing that AS did with yesterday's Inuaysha ep.?

XDDD No way man. It requires a lot of thought. Theres tons of symbolism. It's not a "detective" show.

And it was a great series, my second favorite.

Has Monster even been picked up by an American company for release here? I would think that Adult Swim wouldn't pick it up till someone dubbed it...

I'm rewatching Fushigi Yuugi now, and there's a few reasons why I don't think it would be anywhere close to the top of the list of accquisitions for Adult Swim. First, the animation quality. It really does show its age (there's nothing on AS with as minimal animation as this except for parts of Eva). Second, although there's a lot of action, I think the appeal would be more towards women, and Adult Swim caters to young men...that is their target demographic. Third, it's highly serialized.

As an aside, we got digital cable again a few months ago. Last time we had it there was a lot of stuff on Anime Network On Demand. Now their selection is greatly reduced and there's this thing called Anime Selects, which I think is from Funmation. Anyhow, the quality of the anime they show is really bad. This must be mostly old shows. There are some classics like Utena and Boogiepop but for the most part...IMO...it's junk. Made me really long for the Anime Network of old (like two years ago) when they were showing really good anime...and made me really appreciate most of the choices Adult Swim has made in the last 3 years or so.

Not really... The story does build. There are a couple eps that are more standalone-ish, but for the most part if you try to start it in the middle, you're going to be kind of lost as to what's going on.

The good part for the short attention span crowd, though, is that it's only 13 episodes. :P

I have a couple ideas which episode you might be thinking of. If you're meaning either the one about the girl who lives a double life as a prostitute, or about the girl who discovers her dad has been spying on her (in a bad way), both of those episodes seem to portray the immoral behavior negatively. (Though I think there were a few times in the prostitute ep that I had to look away for the sake of mental purity. ;) ) However, there are a few references to other things scattered throughout the series that some viewers may not appreciate.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

Fushigi Yugi, whatever the problems with it,is still a pretty popular series so it would be worth AS picking up.As far as it being a shojo series there isn't anything wrong with AS acquiring a few shojo titles here and there for variety's sake.Besides I'm thinking about when Inuyasha comes to an end, something like Fushigi Yugi would be a good replacement for it.
Also just because shojo's primarily audience is girls doesn't mean it doesn't appeal to anyone else.

It was the prostitute episode of PA that I saw. Way to just randomly stumble upon the worst, right?

I really haven't watched much Adult Swim in a while. The anime kept being pushed to later at night.

And the thing is, we do have a DVD recorder now. I could just set it up to record, have my nice normal bedtime, and still get an anime fix.

I'm just not all that interested in anything they've been airing recently. GITS has always been nice visually, but it's way too episodic for me to consider it must-see-tv (I like serialized stories). I'm not an Inu fan, or a FMA fan (those seem to appeal to the teens more, and I'm a middle age lady - the second generation anime fans in the house are my teen daughters). S-cry-ed was just so-so, IMO. Seen Eva a long time ago and really don't need to revisit it. I saw part of one ep of Eureka 7 but wasn't totally impressed (now, I know better, one HAS to watch more then one episode of an anime series before passing judgement).

I've just accepted that I'm far from Adult Swim's target audience, and if they show anything I happen to like, that's just a nice little bonus.

The monster tv series is currently unlicensed, but the manga is (by viz)

And PA is my absolute 2nd favorite. Dispite its 3 iffy parts, it was totally awesome

Well, I suspect that Adult Swim isn't going to pick up any anime that isn't already in the translation/production process here in the US. There was some buzz a while back that they were going to show a subtitled anime, but it never happened.

If it ever was true.Looking back now it might have just been a way to keep the anime community buzzing.

I've been pushing for Record of Lodoss War (either version) for the longest time.
I'd also love to see End of Evangelion (why not, they did the series?), RahXephon, Last Exile, Silent Mobius, and Scrapped Princess. If they ever do play an anime comedy, they need to play Maison Ikkoku.

End of Eva is put out by a different distributor in the US, I think...Manga Enteratinment isntead of ADV.

RahXephon, Last Exile and Slient Mobius were licensed for broadcast by G4/TechTV -- btw are they EVER going to show anime again?

It's licensed to AZN Television (which is unfortunately another network that has cut way back on its anime programming).

Still I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to get it, as sort of a closure to NGE. That is, if AS doesn't feel it got burned on movies already with Cowboy Bebop's less-than-stellar performance.

In another interesting dual licensing situation, I wonder how AS might approach Full Metal Panic. My guess is that they'll probably want to go after Second Raid, and since they have a good relationship with FUNimation, I'd say a good chance to get it. Though for the sake of storyline continuity, it seems AS would do well to pick up the original FMP from ADV as well. And according to Kim Manning in an interview, AS was taking a good look at FUMOFFU already.

My guess is that they're bound for Comcast's Anime Selects service. (Which I really hope they start pushing to some other cable providers, since I'm a Time Warner customer.)

When the licenses for RahXephon and Last Exile expire, though, I'd like to see AS go after them. Actually, add R.O.D. the TV to that as well... I got G4 just shortly after they had shown it. :eyeroll:

Isn't Anime Selects all Funimation? They really don't have very much good anime on, at least not IMO. I've been very, very disappointed in the service. Most of it's really old and poor quality. A few "classics" like BoogiePop and Utena.

And RahXephon is ADV and Last Exile is Geneon (I think). Seems like RahXephon would be headed back to Anime Network On Demand.

I'm pretty sure Selects is owned by Comcast. Though FUNimation does have its own 24/7 network now (if you're fortunate enough to live in LA and have access to digital television, or soon if you live in a Verizon FiOS community).

Of course I'm always up for having access to a new (free and legal) anime source, even if I rarely watch it (i.e., AZN). Plus I've still not seen Boogiepop, so that's reason enough for me. ]And RahXephon is ADV and Last Exile is Geneon (I think). Actually I believe Anime Network 24/7 still occasionally runs most of their shows that ADV has licensed out to other networks, such as RahXephon, Evangelion, Cromartie High and Magical Abenobashi Shopping Arcade. Since they're ADV's own shows, I guess they've have the contracts set up such that they can do that.

So I'd say RahXephon ending up back on AN On Demand is a possibility. They probably just didn't see much of a need to put them back on AN On Demand since it was playing elsewhere; maybe now they'll change their minds.
