Target sets up anime departments

I found some interesting info.

"Target To Set Up Anime Departments in 700 Stores
In Cooperation With Funimation

January 19, 2004
In an article entitled "Anime's In" in the current issue of Video Business, VB Editor Marcy Magiera reported that Target is setting up anime sections in 600 stores. Funimation, which handles the home video for Dragon Ball, DBZ, DBGT, Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu Yu Hakusho, Blue Gender, Kiddy Grade, Tenchi Muyo GXP, and the yet to be released (in the U.S.) Detective Conan, will act as Target's "merchandising partner" in setting up the anime sections in Target stores.

An announcement by Viz, on the other hand, lists the number of stores involved at over 700."

Is it available in my area is all I have to say. EDIT:Not only are there stores nearby but my neighbor hood target carries it!!!!!!!!!

Finally, I can easily find anime in rediculously huge stores. It's also in every major city in Alabama. Although, Target may be too expensive for my budget. I don't live too far from one, so I'll check it out when I can to see what's availabe and the prices.

*sigh* too bad others like Pioneer/Geneon, ADV, Bandai, and Media Blasters aren't in on this one. Funimation has the fewest good titles, IMHO. ^sigh^

Interesting. That's pretty cool. ^-^
Of course, if you looked, for the last few years they've been having a growing amount of anime in stores like that. In our local Kmart, they used to have an anime section (but they got rid of it last year... GRRRR! T.T) And our Walmart has a small Three-tape-long Miyazaki shelf.
Still, its great to here something like this happening. Our town lacks a Target, though! *boo-hoo*

I'm glad that anime is going more mainstream. I don't go to Target very often (then again I buy almost all of my anime online), but the more places that have anime, the better. Unfortunately Funimation has a great deal of anime that appeals to children, so I can see how this chould hurt the image of anime if none of the other companies sell their products along with Funimation.

Well, if this is successful, the other anime companies may try to get in on it.

Target is a great store, I agree.

Funimation did give us Fruits Basket, so give 'em a chance, Milly!

Target? isn't that the store with that red circle with a red dot that looks like target? if that's the case, there's WAY too many around here. in fact, i'm amazed there isn't one in my suburb, but is in the next one, which is around 30 minutes walk away. hmm...

(Off topic: - Gypsy, you live in Bangor? *Insert jokes about Stephen King here* Hehehehe. I haven't read much King, but what I have read,... small towns in Maine, particularly Bangor... and it's all over the SK movies I've seen. It's his hometown, isn't it?).

Target... grrrr.... I used to work for the local Target, in the Food Avenue. Blech! I hated that job. Anyway, I do shop there every once in a while. At the local one I saw several anime titles in their DVD section; Blue Gender, Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop...
