.hack//Roots discussion *SPOILERS*

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Thu Apr 13, 2006 1:45 pm

Well, out of all the April titles I'm watching, thinking this one is probably the most popular to make a discussion out of (could've done one on say, AMG season 2, but hey if you've read the manga it would be obvious to what comes up, unlike the unpredictable .hack!) ...still sort of mad that everyone's using the awkward file types like .mp4 (is it REALLY necessary to use?) and .mkv instead of good ol' .avi for this show :/

First off, can someone clear one thing up? I asked before but can't remember: is this before or after .hack//GU?

All I can say about The World v.2, is that I LOVE the new character designs^^ Especially Haseo and whoever this new "dark Kite" character is.

Another thing I find amusing: the new girl "Shino" (pink hair, huge white hat) has the same VA as Subaru's.... hmmm... could it be she's playing still?

//Roots is about six months before the evens of //G.U I think

that .mp4 release from ASource was apparently really bad (i'm talking AnimeJunkies bad), not only encoding errors but bad translation and using an even more unknown filetype than Matroska, and topping it off with not seeding their own file.

Yeah my version was messed up. The Lu Perry version was odd too! Froze in the middle on one player and wouldn't have the subs work on another! Still, on the za warudo (heh didn't get the name till I said it outloud), the subs like to clutter and overlap on either side of the screen :/ I heard there was a way to fix it but can't remember how :/

you probably need an updated matroska splitter, try the CCCP or the Matroska Lite pack

Already I can tell that Phyllo is going to be my least favorite character, I think he just sounds TOO old to be one of those creepy guys on an MMO.

Alright maybe I'll try those (thanks).

Yeah Phyllo is an... odd character. I think Tabby will be an interesting character though^^ Yay Kitties^^ Odd how her tail's connected to her hair though @_@... and this "Ovum" guy... is it just me or does he remind you of a blast from the past (aka Auron)?

where do .hack roots and g.u. fall in chronological relation to the games and or/SIGN? I'm also stoked, but I'd like to know what their exact placing in the overall story is. Also, what exactly is roots? I've only just heard of it. Is it another game or an anime?

For all your watching needs, just use VLC media player...

It'll play EVERYTHING, right out of the box... No codecs to install or anything...

It'll play .mp4, .mkv, .avi... Literally anything, except the dreaded Real Media.... :P

Yes. I know.

Well if it's in the anime section then it MUST be anime, right?

The official .hack order of every medium:

.hack//AI Buster (novel)
.hack//SIGN (TV)
.hack//ZERO (Novel)
.hack//Infection (game/novel) .hack//Liminality ep 1 (OVA)
.hack//Mutation (game/novel) .hack//Liminality ep 2 (OVA)
.hack//Outbreak (game/novel) .hack//Liminality ep 3 (OVA)
.hack//Quarantine (game/novel) .hack//Liminality ep 4 (OVA)
(the novels of the games are known as "Another Birth" though, and OVAs happen during the game/novels)
.hack//Unison (OVA)
.hack//GIFT (OVA) (well, unofficially I guess it would be here)
.hack//Secret of the Twilight (TV/manga)
.hack//Roots (TV)
.hack//GU

.hack//Fragment (game) (stand-alone, of course)
.hack//Enemy (card game) (stand-alone, of course... or so I think)

...is that clear enough? ^^

Yes I do have it, and yes even it needs codecs :/ Couldn't play any .mkvs or .mp4s till I got a new codec (Haali Splitter) and even then I get some problems cause movie players seem to hate me and break :/

Do you know if the .hack Fragment game is slated for a US release at all? I've also heard rumours of the creation of an actual .hack MMORPG O.o Do you think we'll ever get the OVA Unison that happens during the games or the Zero novel? I've read both AI buster novels, own SIGN, and am currently working on completeing the games :-) I also have the Legend of Twilight anime and the manga for same....

It's absolute that Fragment wont be coming over, but Unison was released with the //Sign vol.6 LE; for the Zero novel it's pretty likely, but not for a while because the //Another Birth novels are on the way starting in June.

EH???? When was that anounced?! I heard that it was most likely that they would make a server specifically for North Americans...

EDIT: Guess I forgot to stick the "Intermezzo" OVA on my list... it would go right after the SIGN anime I would think^^

Finally got my hand on the first episode of the series! (The LuPerry one). Now, of course it was a bit troublesome to get the file working (MKV is the best container ever, though this one was real troublesome to play. After much installing and tweaking for MPC, I got it running, a bit "choppy" but with subtitles. Had to sacrifice the smoothness for subtitles XD), so I'm considering waiting for the DVDs :)

Visually ROOTS are as good as SIGN, and designs even better. Love it <3.
The new characters are interesting (especially the "dark Kite", whoever that turns out to be and what role he will play), and to me a lot of the characters are similar to the old ones. I'm wondering if some of the old players have returned to the game under new alias ^^
Now, with only the first episode it's hard to tell much about the story, but it seems to be interesting.

This series seems to live up to the quality of SIGN. Hope it won't be too long before it's relased on the DVD :)

Well, as seen in most pics involving the .hack//GU game, Haseo seems to have teamed up with him...

Might take a bit to be released on DVD... I know the thing that made SIGN pretty boring the first time I watched it, was that the whole thing was dialogue! Talk talk talk talk talk! This one seems to have more stuff going on it it though^^

Oh and BTW, ep 2 is out. Although 4 subbers have done ep 1, LuPerry is the only one that's done ep 2 (I downloaded the High Quality ver. 2 of it, and it worked fine for me, unlike the problems with the first ep of theirs :/)

Question though: anyone notice the ending song to be VERY similar to Rozen Maiden Traumend's opening? Same style and singer it seems (although Yuki didn't help in doing Rozen's music).

And I noticed on the outro, Haseo seems kinda evil :P

He is the terror of death and
is skeith in ai/human (we dont know what he is yet) form, and he can even turn into skeith, but all the main characters can turn into there respective phases
Also I heard the reason fragment wont be coming over is it sold horribly, got horrible reviews and was generally considered a failure (from what I hear it is a phantasy star clone, with almost no customizability battle wise or character looks wise)

I know I shouldn't look at spoilers that far ahead, but that is amusing^^

And Fragment did that bad?? I was looking forward to a MMMORPG that didn't actually have a monthly charge... but I was going to be upset if picking characters was limited by certain models/colours :/

Im pretty sure it was..... And supposedly combat was just as bland...Was hoping for it to, loved the idea of being able to make and host a dungeon.

Oh and I am guessing that the ending of roots is going to probably be why haseo goes crazy revenge nut that he seems to be in the games.

edit just saw your part of haseo and tri edge teaming up, doesnt happen
in the trailer for the game full armor haseo meets tri edge in forbiden holy land (the church) and they fight, tri edge totally owns haseo and then data drains him. oh and might i mention the bracelet when he ddrains him is red all warped and is missing a prong
I work at EB Games, so I know for certain that we're getting .hack GU in the States, but if Roots comes before that, wouldn't it be semi-important that we get that as well? Any word on whether or not it will hit Stateside? Another .hack anime is actually something that I'm totally in the mood for.....<single tear>

Most likely, the question is which is going to hit first. Also we know g.u. is coming with another mini anime about the real world called .//hack jack

the bugs in the .mp4 subs of roots annoyed me too, like not being able to skip further on into the ep afret the first 5 mins or something without it crashing. am just glad AN-Classic and Shinsen-Subs are doing it now. i've been enjoying it so far, the new version of the world is interesting.

Since the 3rd ep the bugs seemed to have been fixed^^ Windows Media Player Classic REALLY helps too (and if you have MSN it goes on to the "what I'm listening to" option, except it's more something you're watching^^)

Just downloaded the 5th ep but have yet to watch it...
