So, someone can like Uwe Boll's movies better than, say, Christophe Gans because Uwe's movies are much easier to make fun of.
0_x Wow... Well, I disagree with you 100%
1. The DiC theme song was stupid, but you did say you like the cheesier, more 1 dimensional stuff, so this fits right along with other cartoon songs at the time. I think the original music was better. I'm one of those strange people that LIKES Ai no Senshi.
2. Some of the dialogue wasn't supposed to be funny. Like, in the ep where they faked "kicking out" Usagi from the group, in the DiC version, they made it sound like Rei betrayed Usagi by taking the crystal out of jealousy, but in the original she was protecting the crystal because of the trick they were trying to pull, they didn't want her to have the crystal with her. Why does Rei have to be a 1 dimensional petty brat in the DiC version? She is just a strong personality who actually does care for Usagi and the rest of them...
3. They were entirely unnecissary.
4. FILTH AND LIES... Er, sorry, just got back from watching Silent Hill a second time... What I meant to say was there is NEVER a reason to change names. Never. It was only done because DiC was afraid kids wouldn't watch something about Japanese kids.
5. Well, to be honest, the villains weren't really supposed to be funny. And Beryl in the Dub was really combining Beryl and Metalia, two entirely different characters, into one. That will always annoy me.
6. The only reason the crosses and relics were taken out (crosses from DiC's collection, relics from the S season) were because they were afraid of backlash, probably from a lot of Christians who thought it was sacreligious and anti-Christians who would have thought they were supporting Christianity.
7. Most of the eps they cut out weren't really important. 1 very important episode, however, that filled in some of the blanks left in the Sailor V story (since there was never an anime version of Sailor V) was cut out for pretty much no reason, and 2 very important episodes (the last two of season 1) were chopped to little bits and barely anything in them remains. Instead of there being real sacrifice, it was just that the Sailors were "captured" and Endymion just backed off somehow and let Sailormoon fight Beryl... In the original, they all died trying to protect Sailor Moon, and Endymion died after finally remembering who he was. Sailormoon, knowing that using the crystal kills it's user, used it to defeat METALIA, a character entirely left out of the DiC dub, the real force behind the evil there. In the history ep, they cut out the story of metalia alltogether, and instead just said Beryl was trying to rule the world. The truth was Beryl was a sorceress who watched Endymion and fell in love with him, but endymion loved princess Serenity. So, Beryl summoned an evil force named Metalia and Metalia basically gave Beryl power provided she did exactly what Metalia wanted, which was destroy and take over the earth, and when they did that, they moved on to the moon. Major major chunks of story were left out.
I undersand you like shallow, 1-dimensional things, but there are those of us who like the story the way it was in the Anime in Japan, and because of DiC's rights on it, it took forever for us to be able to legally see it the way it was originally. Even the Mixx Manga was drastically altered from the original Manga (funny they became tokyopop, which is a very good manga company for the most part, despite translating Sumomo's name, and apparently altering one manga to bits before they became one of the most faithfull translators in the business) So there was no way for fans to get the original story (and no way for us to get Sailor V, which never got a US release) So the fansubs were all we had... All because DiC decided to play Author with the show... And, now, with the license disputes, and ADV losing their rights to the subtitled version, it isn't really available to anyone in any form except buying used. And the DiC version is the only version available for rent in most places (including rent anime and Netflix)
I don't mind your liking the DiC version, but I hate DiC for making it legally impossible for me to really enjoy it the way it was made.

Takeuchi Naoko is currently in a legal battle over the rights of Sailor Moon. If she wins, then there's a good possibility it could go to a new company and the rest could be released in America.

kaemmerite wrote:Well, the fansubs of Sailormoon S I watched called it the Sacred Cup, which I guess could possibly be a more accurate translation of the words used, but given all the talk of the Messiah, it's obvious that Naoko meant it to be "Holy Grail."
