Suggest me some anime please!

Postby DrNic » Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:42 am

I know this sorta thing has already been posted a million times, but I haven't bought/watched any anime in the last three months and I no nothing about any of the new ones. Anyone got any suggestions as to what to look at next

Preferences: Fantasy (Like Castle in the sky, Princess Mononoke), urban futuristic (Akira, Metropolis), Gothic (Vamp Hunter D: Bloodlust), maybe big robot (but not too genric).

I'm trying to avoid fanservice types so if you could suggest stuff that has as little as possible (bare in mind that I thought Vamp Hunter D (the first 1), NGE (and the movies) and Ghost in a Shell (1st movie) were bad). Cheers guys!

You could always try RahXephon, which has come fanservice, but not near as much (or as bad) as NGE. I have no idea what you've seen, but Escaflowne is a slightly older but excellent Fantasy/Robot anime, and Record of Lodoss War is another older but good Fantasy anime. Haibane Renmei is also fantasy-esque and excellent. Serial Experiments Lain is a good near-future urban type anime, but you should proably look at the review first before getting it, and bear in mind that most of the series is pretty strange.

Rahxephone is awesome but as stated there is some fanservice (a beach episode and a dream episode are the worst cept a rear end shot of qion in the second to last ep). also records of lodoss war is also a very good suggestion and then Escaflowne is one of my favs along with rahxephon and FMA.

Well if you liked Mononoke & Castle in the Sky, you should also check out some of Miyazaki's other work. Spirited Away, Nausicaa, and Totoro (the new dub, not the butchered Fox version) are all good. My personal favorite of his is Howl's Moving Castle.

Also, Steamboy was quite good.

And even though it doesn't really fit into any of those categories, Gungrave is one awesome enough that I recommend it to everyone I meet.
"People who sin say this, 'That they had to, to survive.' People who sin say this, 'That it is too late to stop.' That shadow called sin dogs them steadily. Without a word, remorse and agony are repeated, to finally end up at despair. But sinners don't know that if they turn around there is a light, a light that keeps shining on them ever so warmly, a light that will never fade."

how about nadesico? that's a nice futuristic robot anime, that's pretty clean, it's really cheap too, i think it's essential anime or anime essentials or something, so the whole thing is in 3 single case thingys (but 2 disks per case) and they were around 10 dollars a piece at best buy, so the whole thing was around 30.

I have to plug Now And Then, Here And There. Check out CAA's review section to find out what it's about.

I always suggest the same thing: Giant Robo. It's really good, and doesn't ahve any fanservice. You can get the whole thing on 3 DVDs. It's a 7-episode OVA, and my personal favourite series. Just give it some time, the first two episodes are really more of a prologue, but it gets pretty excellent afterwards.

If you rate at least 50 titles on anidb, you can use their "anime hint" feature to find other titles that people with interests similar to yours have liked.

you MUST buy volumes 1 and 2 of Monster ASAP. It is the best anime/manga I have ever laid my eyes on

For more information, read the anime review of it. The anime is no licensed in the US yet. But volumes 1 and 2 are out.

SSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I hate the concept too but once you watch BoBoBo it grows on you. I wanted him to think it was serious and get hooked.

That wasn't my experience. I still miss the brain cells

anyway Nedesico is good. Zone of the Enders is good as well
