Adult Swin is not funny (Fart Gags on serious anime)

Postby Tommy » Sun Apr 02, 2006 6:53 am

Obviously, it was funny for the first couple of seconds, but was I the only person who had the misfortune of seeing GITS and FMA with random inserts of farting. It was disgusting and annoying.

One day AS will realize their sense of humor isn`t funny, but some of the shows they host are. The ones that they make just aren`t.
I`m getting sick of them ruining episodes with constant flatulence; the only time that is funny is in my avatar because I made it. :thumb:

Well, at least I know now that I wasn't the only one who heard that. yeah, at first I had no idea what it was. like, was it the anime or AS? obviously, it must have been an April Fools thing. it was kinda funny, but after the 50th time it got really annoying. good thing I already seen all of FMA and I'm not a fan or GIS. Cartoon Network itself has a history of a bad sense of humor. I think that their first April Fool's Day on the air featured the same Secret Squirrel cartoon replayed over and over for 24 hours straight or something.

That couldn't have been good for ratings.

The only good thing they've pulled was all the mustaches placed on Witch Hunter Robin and whatever else was showing at the time; that was simply silly and well planned, not purposely trying to disgust people.

FMA was MUCH WORSE than GITS.

Some farts in "FMA" had 'watery' sound FX. on a side note, they made it look like the farts were always there. You culd tell they just randomly inserted it for GITS.

It was so well done, that on the closed captioning for GITS and FMA, it actually said [Fart] or [farting] or [bass fart] as though it was in the actual episode. During GITS, I was really confused and actually thought it was Batou doing it. It was about 1/2 way into the episode when I got it.

FMA went a little too far with it, though! During the scene with Rose and the bird behind the curtain, it actually sounded like someone using the bathroom! I asked my friend:

Is he using the bathroom or giving birth behind there?!

I sure didn't expect a Chuck Norris cartoon when they showed a Inuyasha bumper just before it came on and then did it again to the farted up GITS.
Listening to some of the radio DJs I listen to they are not allowed to use too many fart sound effects while on the air and some they can't use because of the rules set by the FCC. I just wonder if CN had to get the OK to do what they did or did they violated FCC rules?

The digital cable I get over here is British, so I don't get Adult Swim as seen in the US, but I would have liked to have seen this just for the novelty. I mean, I probably would have gotten annoyed after a while as well, but still. XD;;

Cable standards are a bit different than radio or non-cable channels. I'm pretty sure the FCC has no control over what cable channels do.

EDIT: According to wikipedia, "Note that cable outlets, such as Cartoon Network's critically acclaimed Adult Swim, are not governed by the FCC and generally do much less editing." So yeah. The FCC has no power over Cartoon Network. XD

^^; I actually thought it was kinda funny.....

This is what happened to me:

I was sound asleep knowing tha tI was losing my extra hour of sleep, and my sis comes in at 3 and is like CR! WAKE UP! This is hilarious!!!" (She was sitting on my bed shaking me awake, see I sleep with my TV on...)

I roll over and I was like. "WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT that you....then I hear the noises and I am like. "WHAT THE HECK!?" The show only had like 10 minutes left, so I guess I didn't get everything.... but I thought what I saw was discustingly funny...

I mean..some parts were really stupid, and I wasn't laughing as hard as my sister, but the part with the microphone replacing Carmello's yelling..was really funny!

I know it's also offensive, but I was also sleep deprived...so my min wasn't thinking clearly..(that, and I have seen this episode A LOT)

I think I accidently recorded it though, and I think it recorded over the last episode of the series...:(

I am surprised they did that GITS though...i mean that was a new episode...

Does this give a whole new meaning to the words, "Toilet Humor?"

They did show GITS last night without the fart jokes in it. It was in a later night run. FMA wasn't showed at that time after GITS was showed.

You have to remember that last night was DST and lineup and times were all at of wack.

Yeah, the scheduling was messed up because of DST (Wingzero mentioned that).

Actually, I remember a few years back when Cartoon Network said they were going to show 25 hours of Scooby Doo in one day. And I was wondering how they were going to do that, if they were going to like, split screen episodes or what...then I remembered it was Daylight Savings Time and the clocks got set back an hour, and so that day technically had 25 hours in it. That was kind of funny.

I thought pulling the rug under viewers feet when they expected Inuyasha and then Neon Genesis Evangelion wasn't very funny. As far as the fart jokes go,they would have bee funnier if they were spaced throughout and not used as much. After awhile it got to be plain stupid and annoying.
The mustaches on Witch Hunter Robin were plain annoying.
When NGE failed to appear on it's usual spot I decided to heck with it and went to bed.
AS' behavior is one reason why I'm into collecting DVD these days.

That cartoon is called Boo Boo runs wild. It's done by John K and the Ren and Stimpy gang from what I know. It comes on CN on Sunday nights.

The farting sounds didn't bug me that much. Since I forgot what time it was and the fact that we went into DST last night and miss the first airing of GITS, but I started to get worried that they were not going to show full ep of GITS last night at all, but they did.

Now for something that I did learn last night.

I never knew that Chuck Norris had a cartoon show at all. Mr T cartoon, I remember, but not good old Chucky!

I did watch the Mr. T cartoon, because I pity the foo' who ain't watching my cartoon!

I'm glad that you mentioned this, because I didn't notice this at all in GitS and I was beginning to wonder. Still, this strikes me as a fairly pointless gag... it takes really good timing for juvenile jokes to be funny and I somewhat doubt there was much effort in this regard.

They actually did do some pretty good timing with the fart jokes (like the cornello broadcast, the status, when there was lots of smoke afterwards, etc) so I actually found it funnier than I thought I was going to. Still, though, the bird took it waaaaaaay too far. (Where did they even GET that sound effect????)

...I'm glad TVs don't have Smell-O-Vision yet.

Personally, I thought it was stupid. It would have been funny if I would have ever seen GITS before, but that was actually my first time watching it. Totally ruined the experience. I gave up trying to take the plot seriously with farting every second.

Yeah, it certainly doesn't help in taking things seriously.

It would've been funnier if they had used one of those crazy filler episodes that don't matter much for the series (well, I don't know if GITS has anything like that, but they could certainly use something like Fullmetal VS Flame for that...)
