I wasn't asking on a moral basis, really, but more along the lines of whether or not this specific case is wrong. Let me rephrase: is it possible that the song files Dogpile brings up exist on the web legally?

Ah, I see.

I would say no, they are not any more legal than they would be from a P2P network. If the music is copyrighted, then it is illegal to distribute it without compensating the artist or having said artist's consent.

well thats not always true, sometimes the band's official site has streaming mp3s and music videos, those are legal
