Is just me...? (Thread concerning Naruto Dub)

Postby Tommy » Mon Jan 09, 2006 9:06 am

Is it just me or did they seriously tone down the editing job for the Naruto dub. I mean mainly for blood and how they brought back that one scene when Naruto and Saskue kissed.

I mean i can handle the blood, since so far it`s a realistic amount unlike Samurai Champloo and FMA.

No it aired this Saturday (well saturday the 7th). It was the episode where
Kakashi does the Lightning Blade thing and Haku wants Naruto to kill him but instead goes and saves Zabuza's life by getting in the way and dies and then Gato comes in)
I was satisifed by the editing job. They left a fair amount of blood and violence as well.

Myoti wrote:BUT, did they keep Kakashi's Chidori stab upon Haku?

Yes for the most part. Save for the squishy sound affects and the blood dumping from Haku's chest. Like I said, you saw blood dripping or splattered but it wasn't covered all over the place like the orginal version.

The blood in the dub is more realistic. The blood in the sub is too uncontroable.

Tht`s like a guy getting shot in the leg and have all his guts spill out.

Anyways, I can`t wait to see how they deal with Saskue since I don`t know what happens to him.

I doubt Sasuke is dead. They'd have already moved on from his death by now if he was. And main characters have died before. Look at Gundam SeeD, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop. All of these have at least one main character perish.

I have finally seen this anime and can now comment! Without having seen an unedited version, I would have to say it is reasonable considering they are airing it on TV.

Sasuke isn't dead. If you watched Naruto all the way up to Episode 140 or so Spoiler [ Sasuke gets enticed to come to Orochimauio, so he leaves on his own, Sakura tries to stop him( even tells him that she loves him and would do anything to make him not leave hern she even threatens to scream in the end), but he knocks her unconcious. Naruto, Choiji, Ino, Bakaryuune guy person( forgot his name, haven't watched Naruto in a while) and the only genin to pass the Chunin exam that year ( I forget his name yet again, he's one of my favorite characters, reminds me of me, but anyways), go on a rescue mission to bring him back, but they run into Orochimauio's men and go one on one with them, until it's only Naruto, chasing after Sasuke. Orochimauio's former container comes along and tries to fight Naruto, but fuzzy brows shows up ( Rock Lee) and confronts the container guy, scary battle by the way and Naruto catches up with Sasuke and they have an explosive battle. In the end, Naruto gets injured and Sasuke leaves and goes to Orochimauio's hideout. Also to note, the Village of the Sand's genins shows up ( Gaara and his two teammates and help the Konoha ninja team defeat Orochimauio's minions, which is pretty good, since Gaara has changed alot in personality after Naruto defeated him after their surprise attack on Konoha, Gaara did owe Naruto for opening his eyes] The series gets alot more interesting from then on. Sasuke is not the main character, although he is arrogent enough. Naruto is, after all the series is named after him and the series and movie, plus the 3 oav's focuses on him.

Wassup, this is Tom Dincht sitting with Monkey J. luffy. I just had to make one comment to Starwarsboy. Ask a mod how to use spoiler tags before you completely ruin the story. And please don`t tak about where the sub is and Saskue`s death.
This thread is about the editing job.

Continue.

Apparently its not "Chidori", rather "Lightning Strike" and the sound is like... thunderclaps instead of actual birds chirping...

Well... uh... if they changed the name, then changing the sound would make sense... but why they would do that... well...

I meant more like, did they keep the "stab"?

but chidori was never actual lightning! Chidori/Raikiri was just lots of chakra that looks light lightning and can cut through lightning. It's not lightning!

You guys are honeslty making a big deal about nothing. Who cares what sound affect it makes?

Who cares if its Lightning or not? It was never revealed it was actually Lightning. It could just look like it. Viz did a great job in this dub.

It's not a big, BIG deal. We're just a little nitpicky.
"Chidori" means like, "Thousand Birds" and has nothing to do with lightning...

Sasuke and Naruto? Not really...it was in the second episode. Naruto jumps on top of the desk and starts eyeballing Sasuke, and somebody bumps into Naruto, knocking him into Sasuke, and causing their lips to meet.

They did a crappy job of editing it on the dub and now they bring back that part in a single scene.

The kiss? I think not. They managed to convey what was happening quite well without actually having to show it.

Oh yes, the gigantic smooch sound effect. They should have cut it out altogether. If you bumped into someone nad your lips met, would it make a giant smooch sound?
There was no point in keeping that part as well as the ninja centerfold or Sexy Justsu, but they kept it in which is why I don`t see a big difference between the dub and the sub other than adding unnesscary language and blood.

Language is usually the fault of fansubbers, not the show itself. Swearing is a LOT different in Japan than it is here. Fansubbers tend to take liberties with the language in order to make the show sound more "adult." So blame the fansubbers for language in anime.

Indeed.
From what I've heard, apparently "kuso" can mean "Crap" just as easily as it can mean the explecitive version. It just depends on the situation.

So don't blame the fansubbers for language in anime.

Wait, don't you mean DO blame them? O_o
