Chrono Trigger as an anime series

Postby rocklobster » Tue Jan 10, 2006 12:25 pm

I've been playing Chrono Trigger off and on and I must say I think it'd make a great TV series.
Here are some of the changes I'd make if I were to make a TV show:
Chrono: He'd talk, just not a lot. You'd hear his thoughts more than actual lines.
The endings: The default ending would wrap things up. On the final DVD, you'd get a selection of OVA episodes that show the alternate endings (a la Wolf's Rain)

Actually, there was a Chrono Trigger OVA... well, sort of. It was about a lot of the monsters celebrating the millenial fair, and it had a good amount of inside jokes.

But still, you've got a good idea there, and I'm all for it since Chrono Trigger is one of my all-time favorite games.

I was really disappointed with the OVA once I found out that the main characters weren't in it. A series based on Crono and the gang would be awesome. ^_^d

"Based" being the key word. While the video game had a good storyline, I would hate to see it translated event for event into an anime or manga. Those tend to be rushed and rather poor quality. The two are simply separate mediums; what works for video games does not work for stories meant to be viewed.

But if a good producer got ahold of the rights and produced an anime as the storyline deserves I would be interested.

Mmm, that would be interesting. If well done, I think Chrono Trigger (and Chrono Cross for that matter) would make great anime. A shame they keep trying to make FPSs into movies rather than RPGs into anime, I have a feeling the latter would do MUCH better than the former have (although, admittedly, it isn't difficult to to better).

I`d rather see Xenogears be put into an anime/manga than anything in the Chrono franchise.

However, Chrono trigger would make a good anime. Cross would not.

I don't think the concept of "silent protagonist" transfers into non-game forms very well... In fact, that was my biggest annoyance with the Chrono games... The idea that creating a blank character will allow the player to project themself onto it? It's just rediculous... I connect much better with, say, Locke than I do with Crono... Also, the character I connected most with in all movies and games combined was Joel on Eternal Sunshine... His character was very very specific. Blank main characters is just a sign of bad writing, in my opinion... The rest of teh main characters made up for that, though...

Basically, the story would have to be rewritten in some major ways to work outside of games, unless you only used the non-Crono parts to tell the story... Sorta like Muslim movies on Mohammed... They can't actually depict mohammed, so they depict the events around him... Something closer to Crono than those monsters running the Fair, though...

BTW, if the dialogue could be overhauled, and the 40 something characters reduced to like 8, and a more definate part for Serge was made, then Cross would make a great anime...
