Does Fullmetal Alchemist improve?

Postby Warrior 4 Jesus » Sun Jan 01, 2006 11:29 pm

I've heard about this series and now own the first dvd volume. It was quite good and had some interesting themes and things to think about. I'm still getting used to the comedy injected into it - not used to that in a fairly serious anime. Does the anime series get better? Because it was quite good, but maybe I was expecting too much as I thought it may have been a bit better.
Also how many dvds make up the series?

Thanks!

51 episodes? Sounds like it could be two series worth of dvds (14?).

Thanks

The magic with FMA (Bleach does this do) is that they add random comedic moments during serious parts. Not all the time, but when they do its glorious.

I felt that FMA was REALLY good, and the movie tied up some loose ends.

I haven't seen much of this show, but I'm getting the feeling it's the victim of its own hype. It's cool, sure, but it's just a TV show. It's not going to do your homework and make you a sundae. Just have what fun you can with it and let that be that.

One Piece has that "funny in serious moments", but in many, MANY more cases (even looking at the villains can sometimes prove this :p ).

I need more FMA. I only have the first volume of the manga and I've only seen a few episodes. ;_;

FMA is rather overrated and overhyped, but it's pretty good.

Volume 7 will be coming out January 10th. There will be 13 volumes total in this series.

A lot of people like this title. I haven't been totaly sold on it. I think I'll be waiting for a later box set.

The series was very good subb wise(I got all 51 Episodes subbed, and am waiting for the movie to come out on sub on dvd) and I've started collecting it dub wise(up to volume 4. I saw up to Episode 27 dub at least, so it's all good). It's a real good series, and also has some western themes of ideals and religion, thus Christianity is somewhat in it and somewhat not. Remeber, even Ed said that he doesn't believe in God anymore. spolier [He has his God issues throughout the series though].

The thing I found so great about this series, Is the voice acting. I love the English dub!! ^_^ I am not sure if they dube their own austrailian voices over there, W4J, but here in the US. A Christian VA does the voice of Ed. I think that is really cool. Not to mention THe humor in it is really great! ^_^

I love the artistry in it too. Its really quite nice! The backrounds, the animation! KYA! Just great! <3

Anyway, stick with the series! Its really good!! :thumb:

It's great that Vic Mignogna is a Christian (hadn't heard, myself), but I personally don't think his performance is that great. Of course, I don't like Ed as a character. Or Al for that matter. The primary problem with FMA in my opinion is that its protagonists are an obstacle the series has to overcome rather than a strength.

I really want to see this series. I've extensively read the manga so I'd like to see how the two compare.

I've been watching FMA for quite a while and I have the first volume on DVD. it's my favorite and yes, it does get better along the way. It's way awesome, if you're into a good violent, bloody, serious, yet comical anime. then It's FMA :jump: . absolutely astounding, and yes, there are some christain themes played out if you really look into it. I love it, it's my Favorite, Yay! Full Metal Alchemist

Was this absolutely necessary?...

At any rate, FMA has become my favorite anime. I wasn't too fond of the first volume, and to be honest, I'm still not. But it does improve later, and very quickly. The only reason I would not suggest this series to someone would be if they are uncomfortable with the themes of alchemy.

I pretty much echo Orenji's sentiments. I can see where the first 3-4 episodes wouldn't necessarily get you hooked, but it gets more addictive as it series progresses.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

I do think the series gets better as it goes on. The story really drags you in and the characters are all enjoyable.
