Rurouni Kenshin OVAs (Samurai X) Questions

Postby Godly Paladin » Mon Dec 12, 2005 11:08 am

Alright. I need people to correct my facts if I wrong and then answer my questions, if ye'd be so kind.

There are four SX OVAs: The Motion Picture, Trust, Betrayal, Reflections. Trust and Betrayal are prequels, Reflections is a sequel, and the Motion Picture is a side story.

How good are each? Quality, etcetera?
Which is better: Reflections or TMP?

Anything else you can add would be dearly appreciated. I'm still new to Kenshin and I'm trying to get my head on straight.

Trust and Betrayal is one of my favorite movies...It's very moving so if you get emotional you might want some tissues...More so for Reflections.

As fare as which one is better I'd say that The Motion Picture is probably the worst of the bunch. It's not bad...But it really isn't that great either.

That's about all I have on it right now...If any more thoughts pop into my mind I'll let you know.

Yeah, I'm a tenderhearted sort of guy. ;) I guess I'm after Reflections, then. Does it have as much blood as Trust and Betrayal? That movie has veritable geysers...

out of the movies the motion picture is the worst, but only compared to the others, its more like a feature length episode than anything else. My personal fave was trust & betrayal.

One thing about Reflections, though. It's better if you have seen the entire TV series or have read the manga. That way, you will understand it better. It's a good movie, but it isn't stand-alone.

I'd go the opposite of what the others: The Motion Picture is the ONLY one worth watching (the only done like the TV seres). Reflections was a waste of time, and Trust/Betrayal was basically Kenshin's past retold with the humor removed.

I thought the movie was pretty bad, myself. I haven't seen the OVA's yet. (Though I just bought them for a friend, so maybe he'll let me watch them when he's done. ^_^)

Wow! That's a very unique opinion. I viewed The Motion Picture as being okay if one sees it in Japanese and a flop if one sees it in English. Also, I didn't like the fact that they flash backed about seven times to the same scene. Even though there's no humor (or, as i see it, a little humor here and there) in Trust and Betrayal, it's still an excellent drama. However, I did prefer The Motion Picture to Reflections, because Reflections is too depressing and I didn't like how Kenshin refused to be known by the name given to him by his teacher (the person who saved his life and raised him for ten years).

So I'm starting to get the feeling that I don't *need* to have any of them. I think I already know T&B pretty well through all the AMVs I've seen, and neither of the other two sound like must-buys.

Is the series all I really need, in the end?
