Blood+

Hey, is anyone else watching Blood+? Its a (somewhat) sequel of Blood: The Last Vampire. I don't think its the same as the manga though. (I haven't read the manga but if anyone knows where to get it PM me)

I'm only on ep 4 and my first impression so far is that its way too happy to be a sequel to Blood. The opening scene was nice, had the same theme as the movie, but the OP is a bad sign already... Its rather uplifting. I'm rather annoyed usually by the sometimes strange "insert-Japanese-moral-here" moments in anime, and I have a sinking suspision it'll have them in this series. Normally I wouldn't mind, but this just doesn't seem like a series that would have those moments. Saya being all nice is getting on my nerves and if she doesn't get her memory back and be normal again I will not be a happy camper.

Normally all this wouldn't bother me, but in this case it does because its such a huge mood contrast from the movie.

Also, the episodes are going a little slow at the moment. I have a feeling it'll pick up, but this is one of those series that would be better to watch all in a row. And as is expected the animation isn't as nice ;__; But all and all I'm really enjoying the possibilities of the series. I'm looking forward to more of it. I'm also hoping George dies... the happy, perfect, always nice fatherly character also gets on my nerves in anime.

I love the movie Blood: The Last Vampire. I didn't know they made a sequel though. Weird. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

I watched the first episode, but her and her frineds seemed a little too friendly. Does that continue into the next couple episodes?

A note on the manga, someone told me, be it true or not, that the manga was heavily Yuri. Just thought I'd give you the heads up.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

no its not hentai... its kinda violent. Also, I'm pretty sure after watching to the 4th ep that Saya and her friend aren't lesbian. From all I've heard, most Japanese girls are more touchy-feely than we are ^^; Seriously though I thought they were just being friendly. Me and my friends sit all over each other and I'm very positive that we're not lesbian.
From all I've read about the manga (which isn't related to this... this isn't so much a sequal as it is a series using the same characters), its very violent and there's some sexual innuendo/mudity in it... But I haven't heard there was Yuri in it.

Not Yuri. Glad to hear it! Well, perhaps I'll give it another try. The seemingly yuri undertone as well as that somewhat intersting. . . um, encounter between she and the guy in the priest outfit had me a little concerned. But, I'm willing to give it another try.

I grabbed the manga randomly once at Borders and after reading the back, I learned that the artist/writer is some kind of famous hentai artist. I would classify the manga as hentai but I don't know about the show and movie. I'd take that information and run with it, though.

Oh. That's good to know. Thanks, Jamie.

hm...I usually don't gravedig, but this is an exception. Saves the trouble of starting a new thread. Plus it's only what...half a year? ^_^;;

Noticing that this thread is leaning in a negative direction. sad! I've watched 32 episodes of Blood+ so far and it could easily be one of my fav anime overall. Beautiful art, intriguing characters, the ever-so-handsome(what? <.< LoL) Hagi. Plus there's lots of violence. mhm, very good.

Anyone else been watching this anime? (it would seem taht the posters so far had only seen the first few. Hardly enough to give it a proper review ;) )

Sidenote, in response to those mentioning the manga. Not quite accurate...

There is not only one, but three different manga based on Blood+ mythology being published by Kadokawa Shoten.

* The official adaptation of the TV series, by Kumiko Suekane, serialized in Monthly "Shonen Ace".
* A story focused on Saya and Hagi's past in Russia, by Asuka Katsura, serialized in "Beans Ace".
* A Hagi solo story, prior to the events of the TV series, by Hirotaka Kisaragi, serialized in "Ciel".

(off of wikipedia)

So I highly doubt taht all of them have a hentai aspect. Just a heads up :)

I heard that Blood+ was licensed, so I stopped watching it... Was it licensed by one of those companies that takes it and sits on it forever? =_=;; I might wait for it to come out here and then finish watching it on netflix, but it isnt the sort of series that I'd buy. I really enjoyed it while I watched on fansubs though. it was a good series.

Oh and did Saya ever stop being so happy? Or did the series turn out like my first post feared?
I heard that Blood+ was licensed, so I stopped watching it... Was it licensed by one of those companies that takes it and sits on it forever? =_=]Yeah, it's licensed but only as of last month if I remember correctly. Hopefully things will not take too long.

Yeah, there's alot of drama & emotions in the later episodes, and Saya becomes much more intense overall. The happy personality of early on had alot to do with
her not remembering anything of the past. She was living the life of a normal teenage girl. As the memories return, she has to deal with her past & current purpose.
Blood+ is licensed by Sony, so I don't know if it'll be released anytime soon or not. I actually just started watching the series, and I think I'd be very likely to buy it if it does come to DVD. The yuri thing someone mentioned earlier made me a little worried though, because someone else mentioned something about some yuri on another message board I was looking at. I'm still trying to figure out where they got the yuri from though, because as far as I've researched it there isn't any actual yuri in the tv series or the movie, and I don't think there's any in the manga versions, but I'm not positive on that since I've never read the mangas. Is there like some unknown manga/novel version where people are getting this yuri idea from?! So confused @_@

Just a quick note: I found out that the third manga series someone mentioned earlier is actually a shounen ai/ boys love manga. ^^; What I've seen of the other two manga series seems okay though.
