Ever heard of these?

Postby teen4truth » Wed Oct 12, 2005 8:09 pm

Does anybody know about these? I was looking for some good clean anime to watch (which by the way guys I found a lot better stuff when typing 'clean anime' into the search jiggy then I did when I typed in 'Christian anime' and I find that kinda sad on our part) and these are the ones I have found so far. Do any of you know about any of them, and if so what do you think about them? Oh and I am really strict on what I watch just so you know^_~

The thing that offends me most: abused romance
Thing that offends me the least: violence

Ok so anywayz here are the animes/mangas I was wondering about^^

Kino’s journey
Serial Experiments Lain
Chiyo-chan
Azumanga Daioh

Thankies for the help, or thankies for trying even if you were not able to^^

Azumanga has some*Osaka stands in corner with bat ;) *-er...

*reads from script* Azumanga has some yuri overtones. They are undoubtedly there, but are by no means as strong as a show such as Revolutionary Girl Utena, or even Sailor Moon. However, viewer discretion is advised, due to the tentative nature of the issue. Also, a few off-colour jokes are made. Nothing too terrible, but, again, still there. There is one perverted idiot teacher to look out for. But, over all, it is the story of a group of typical high school girls, each with varying and unique personalities, just making their way through life.*stops reading*

*whew* that about sums it up! :sweat:

Chiyo-chan is actually a character from Azumanga Daioh! There is only one character who has yuri issues, and she is very minor. It mostly just focuses on the randomness that occurs when a bunch of high-school girls (and their teachers) get together.

if you click on the reviews section, a lot of those animes have reviews written about them.

i've seen lain, and it's weird... there's some violence, some really strange sexual scenes, and some weird theology towards the end that i couldnt follow... it's a confusing mind trip of an anime, if you like that type of thing you'd like lain, i really liked lain, but then again i like that sort of mind trip stuff.

and as for azumanga.... the yuri undertones werent really made into much of a big deal or anything, the creepy teacher was worse

If you want a really clean manga, Yotsuba is done by the same author as Azumanga Daioh. I don't remember any objectionable content in it. 3 volumes are out thus far. Azumanga also has mild language in both the anime and manga.

Yeah, I would just go with Yotsuba! if I were you. If you're REALLY strict with what you read and watch, then sadly you're going to have a hard time with just about any anime/manga. Just like almost all movies nowadays, there is going to be something objectionable in it. If you want, though, I could suggest things to you including and index of panels to skip as a form of editing for you, cutting out any minor inuendos or other things that are objectionable. If you are interested in that, just let me know and I'll work out a editing key for you. Of course you'd have to let me know what kind of thing you are interested in, because the things I enjoy may not be the things you would enjoy. Anyways, like I said just pm me if you are interested. ;)

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

Umm, so, here's the deal about that. What is clean in my opinion and what's clean in your opinion are going to differ. There's no doubt about it. While, perhaps, the things I suggest to you which are clean in my mind might offend you, you have to remember that your standards of clean would probably offend Amish people. Clean varies from person to person based on what causes them to stumble and what they've been lead to hold as their standards in the spirit.

We're doing our best here. :P

So, help us out. What exactly do you mean by "abused romance?" Furthermore, would you mind indulging my curiosity by listing your five favorite movie (not anime movies, just regular type :lol: )

Concerning Lain, I really don't think it would be your cup of tea. It's highly psychological in nature, deals with suicide, and a lot of very bizarre ideas. And, there are a few minor sexual references. . . Kino's Journey, similarly, features some disturbing thematic elements and some pretty brutual violence. I wouldn't suggest either of these to you at this point, frankly.

There are obviously a few things we can suggest: Hamtaro, Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar, Risky Safety, Saint Tale, and Angelic Layer, but I can't suggest those for certain until I know what you mean by "abused romance."
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. I'd totally second Yatsuba. It's very funny and clean...Aria is also good...It's one of those ones that you read and it shows you that you just need to enjoy life more. There is some minor language though. There's a review of the anime Lain on this sight actually...(I wrote it!)

Wow, you guys have been busy posting while I was gone!

What do you mean by, 'disturbing thematic elements?'

I am not very worried about violence, I love action movies like LOTR and such.

By abused romance, I mean when there are bed seens, kids my age are the center of the romance....you know, when Romance is used in any unGodly way and it is not pointed out as wrong. THIS IS THE THING THAT REALLY BUGS ME. I have seen very few movies that do not make me twitch in some way when it comes to romance.

Cussing drives me crazy, not just in the movie, but after it when I keep hearring rude words in my head (it is like satan makes them stay on my mind to bug and plolute me all day! Oh so annoing).

Violence does not really bug me too much, I am not the 'fighting never solved anything' type of person, because it has, such as the Civil War, Revolutionary War, ect.

I basically want something that I can watch with anybody, even my grandma (which Jesus will be with me watching it no matter what) and not feel guilty or hope that they did not hear or catch what was just said or done. But I also want something nice and adventurous, with lots of action-and hopefully-some good moral lessons along the way.

I am currently into animes like Rurouni Kenshin, Beyblade, and Digimon. I do not really care if I have to watch kiddy shows, as long as they are good both moraly and plot wise. (hamtaro is cute, but is soooooo boring)

Serial Experiments Lain and Kino's Journey are psychological anime and are probably not your cup of tea.

Eh, I guess I'll recommend Naruto. It has plenty of action. If you are fine with Kenshin, you should be fine with Naruto.

I would recommend One Piece if it had at least gotton a decent dub but I can't really in good conscience recommend the hackjob dub that 4kids made. It fits the "nice and adventurous" statement you made however.

While I like Azumanga Daioh, you should know that there's a male teacher who watches the students. It's played for laughs, but I guess I should throw that out so you won't be shocked.

As far as "disturbing thematic elements," I mean. . . well, I'll take an example from Boogiepop Phantom. One character is given the ability to see the regret that other characters are harboring. These regrets manifest themselves in the form of large spiders clinging to various people. This character who can see the bugs takes them off of other characters and then eats them. Yuck. *is still disturbed by the thematic elements. XD* That might fall more into the the "disturbing imagery" category, but disturbing thematic elements in general are plot elements that just make you feel, um, unsettled. If that makes sense.

Cool, I think I will definately check Kino's Jouney and Aria out. Ya I heard about Noruto, and I definately want to try it...but their sandals bug me o.o

I will brobably be content with a not-so-awesome dub. I am not so picky about things like that^^

*looks around* Why does every one think that physcological animes are not my cup of tea? DO I act dumb or something? o.o

I would recommend waiting until you're my age (see at the side), at least be 16, before you try Serial Experiments Lain. It's VERY heady stuff according to what I've heard. Kino's Journey? Maybe you can rent it first and see if you like that kind of thing. That's my 2 cents worth.

I think the reason that people are saying that shows like Lain aren't your cup of tea is that most all the animes that you've mentioned are a totally different style than shows like say Kino's Journey. I would definately recommend the anime "Now And Then, Here And There." It's really dramatic and frankly disturbing at times...But it has one of the best stories out there...It has some pretty dark stuff but it draws a very clear line between good and evil. Actually more so than a lot of christian things I've seen. Well that's my two yen for ya.

I really liked the Aria manga. It's beatifully done. Not too deep of a plot, mind you, more of a "day in the life of a Martian gondoleer." Lots of really feel good moments.

Stellvia (of the Universe) is just finishing up in the US, with the 7th DVD out right now and the last one in December. Fan service is very minimal in this one. There is even a Christmas scene where one of the characters recites part of the birth narative out of Luke!

In the "not violent" with minimal fan service, but odd category is Someday's Dreamers. Follows the summer training of a new Mage. Lots of magic in this one, but the idea that this is all regulated by a huge government beurocracy is whacked. Actually, all of the rules on magic use keep it in the rather trivial category so there isn't too much argument for people relying on magic over faith in God. HOWEVER: one of the characters makes use of clearly Christian symbols when she casts spells. They are not bad spells, but if this kind of thing offends you, be warned. There is also an encounter with a woman who works as a "hostess" in a bar. I didn't find this offensive, because this series is very tasteful about such things.
