I rented the X/1999 movie last night, I had very low expectations judging from what I heard, but I wanted to give it a try seen as the series was so awe-inspiringly incredible and cool. Let's sum this up without growing frighteningly angry, I loathed it with every fiber of my DVD player, to say it was horrific is easily an understatement. X_X" They never even explain the characters before they die, they change the characters so intensely they are basically bootleg freak versions of the original, and they never even say that Karen is a Christian. -_- Some movie that turned out to be...
Jesus is Lord.

That's kind of harsh. They only had 90 minutes to tell the entire story, so they had to speed through things a little. What about the music and the awesome animation? *drools over the animation* It came out in 1996, and the animation still kicks butt against most anime movies out there. The movie did at least keep closer to the trippyness of the manga (love those dream seqences) and wasn't edited for TV, so they could get away with blowing up a building or too.

If I'm not mistaken my former alias, "Ruroken," is in the "Tomoyo Observation Corps" class.

I saw port of that movie. To be honest, I thought it was kind of dumb. But consider that I came into it like half way through... That girl's head fell off or something... XD;;

EDIT: The part where she brought him his lunch box... I don't get it.

EDIT: Oh yeah. I have Wish. Scans though, I'll admit. I haven't read it yet though. EDIT: (again) Ahh, never mind. I just had to read a little more.

Hoo, boy... The people at tokyopop changed the genders of the charcetrs around, methinks...

http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?prop ... racterinfo

According to fans, the female charcters are actually male... In a note the character "Kohaku is not a boy- he's an angel, but definatly not female." x.x;;

All the angel (not sure about the devils) characters in Wish are genderless. Since the english language doesn't really have gender neutral pronouns, Tokyopop had to use "she" and "he" to describe the characters. However, most Wish fan-people I've come across insist on thinking of Kohaku as male, because they prefer a guy/guy pairing >_<.

Crossdive, if you want a better telling of the X/1999 story in animation, go find X:the TV SERIES. The animation and battles are way better than the movie actually, the voice acting and the story is also better, with much more humor.

Yeah, I saw the X movie awhile back when I was first getting into CLAMP and I don't remember being overly impressed. I definitely need to check out the series, as a longer series provides a much better chance for deep characterization and plot development, hopefully with the same beautiful art.

Arrgh! That kept nagging at me, Shao! I had thought you had a previous screen name and I couldn't remember what it was! Well, one way or the other you're now an official member. ;) I'll credit you with any Ruroken posts to your total next time I post totals!

The manga has nudity, if I remember correctly, and lotsa bloodiness at parts. Someone else is probably better to answer that question :sweat:

Crossdrive already saw the X TV show (the power of inside information ^^!)

The animation and battles are way better than the movie actually

Waht!? Are you blind? lol, J/K :grin: . But seriosly, I think the animation quality is pretty easy to see between the movie and TV series. The TV show probably has better color (something I've noticed a little of is that movie animation often seems darker than TV animation.) and might look better if you compare still shots of them side by side, but when they are in action the higher frame-rate and smoothness of the movie's animation can be seen. You can also see the supieriority of the movie animation in just about any scene that has flying feathers or sakura blossoms. in the movie the flying blossom/feathers are actully animated, while in the TV show the feathers/blossoms are like a little computer generated sticker that the animators just copy pasted all over the screen a zillion times.

And the battles were better in the TV show? What? ^^ The battles in the show were actully a big dissapointment for me. Most of them barely lasted longer than a minute or two, and didn't live up to the manga battles. For example, in the anime Seishiro and Subaru have their first battle in the forest; they throw some atacks at eachother, have some dialogue, and end it. In the manga however, their battle takes place in the middle of the city, and although it probably isn't that much longer than the anime battle, it is signifigantly more intense and featured the destruction of some nearby buildings. Going off on somewhat of a tangent here, but the thing I found dissapointing about the TV show anime was the toned down battles, not just less blood either. In the manga everything feels more epic, you've got massive destruction and devestation, the city is almost literally crumbling around the characters as they fight for the fate of thre world. The TV series, with the toned down violence and short battles, didn't feel as epic, it felt more like a bunch of people just sitting around talking about the end of the world for 70% of the series. Of course the movie battles weren't much longer than the ones in the TV show, but they at least stuck closer to the massive destruction of the manga

And finally, to answer the content question, the X manga is very violent and gory. Lots of splattering blood and severed limhs. There is also some detailed nudity in earlier volumes (3, 6, and 7, I think) Overall, the series should be considered R-rated. The movie has slightly less violence and nudity than the manga, but is still rated R. The TV series cuts down on a lot of violence and no detailed nudity is shown. I'd say the show would get a strong PG-13.

Oro? o_O; I guess I just forgot to ask before. But thanks for the welcome. ^^

Wow, only 3 more discs of the CCS series to go for me. I saw vol. 15 last night and it was excellent, just like the others. The love stories are becoming quite interesting (Meilin like Shaoran but Shaoran likes Sakura but Sakura likes Yukito ^^; ). And I'm very excited about Meilin returning next ep. I like it when all the characters are there. ^^

It was really cute how Sakura and Syaoran start using eachother's first names after the elevator episode. And I love Syaoran's image song. "The girl I can't ignore"

Edit: Warning, this is a long long post, and rather annoying i must admit, i got a little excited, sorry :sweat:
______________________________________________________________
WOW The fanclub is revitalized!!! Grant you i have not been able to get on the web for two weeks and that has a lot to do with it, but i have been gone that long before and only had a page or two to read, not seven! I missed a lot Really belated happy bday Spriritsword, thanks for everything.

I keep hearing all these things about the Tsubasa anime and i'm going mad with anticipation!!! When does it come in English, not the fansubs, the real release (I cant get the fansubs, even if i wanted to, i have a 27.6k connection) I hear great things about the music, is there going to be a soundtrack? Is it out? That i may by from Japan on the internet if i can, i love a lot of music from anime and i think Japanese sounds much prettier than English.

Welcome Shao, sorry i took so long to say it.

Okay, i got limited funds and i need advice. What should i get: Chobits anime, X anime (tv series i think, its 8 DVD's), or Loki Ragnorok manga. I'm leaning towards the manga with my limited funds (now that school started i'm back to a $10 a week since i have no job)

Hey, Shao and Termyt, have you read the manga of CCS? If you like the anime, i'd recommend the manga, I have a tendency to like manga more than anime though (i like to draw, easier to do when the pics dont move, i like the black and white, and i think that manga add's character to the story. Or maybe its that i never have to worry about bad voice acting taking away from the story (Japanese voice acting tends to be great, but the only anime i've seen that i really liked the voice acting in English was .hack//sign and the Japaneses was still better, but since this is for CLAMP, i won't talk about it here)

But it does kind of lead to another question i have, is the Tsubasa anime being done by the same people who did .hack//sign? If it is, thats great news for me, i thought the it was well done.

Whoa, sorry to talk so much, its just been too long since i have been here.

Tsubasa Chronicle hasn't been licensed yet :(. episode 19 airs this saturday. I think the first TV soundtrack and the movie soundtrack are out now on CDJapan. I hope someone licenses the anime soon, along with the XXXHolic movie. It and the Tsubasa movie premiered last week as a double feature ^^.
