Samurai 7

Postby Galant » Mon Aug 08, 2005 9:59 am

Hi all. Yesterday I came across an upcoming (?) series based upon Kurosawa's classic movie The Seven Samurai. 'Samurai 7' will apparently be 26 episodes long, at the usual 25 min length.

I was wondering if any of you know anything about it. I loved the movie, and I hope this will be of the same cailbre in the anime world.

it's based on the Kurosawa film The Seven Samurai one of the best movies ever filmed, Japanese or otherwise. However the series is set in a sci-fi setting, like the studio's later Gankutsuou. The first half follows the movie almost exactly, with some deviations and expansions....the second half starts a whole new story, I think. Animated by GONZO.

I saw the first few episodes and I loved it. Took a little getting used to, after having seen the movie, but it left an impression on me. Definately a must-see

Content is good - it's about the level of the movie - maybe a tad milder, but about the same. Like SirThinks2Much said, it's basically divided half-and-half between the movie and some new stuff. It's a very good series, I highly recommend it.

Um, then does that mean that the end will stay true along with other things. I loved the movie, jsut a great sad story. I can't wait to watch!

I've been waiting for this since I read about it in Newtype-usa. An in this months Newtype there was the first episode. It was a great looking show.

Personally I find it very different from the movie. It sort of follows the general plot, but I'd recommend that people treat the anime as a stand-alone work with homages to the movie instead of "an anime version of The Seven Samurai," you'd be a lot less disappointed that way.
