Blindside - The Great Depression

Postby Kkun » Fri Jun 24, 2005 9:29 am

The new Blindside album is going to be huge, guys. I am entirely very excited about this album. Its title is The Great Depression and I think it will be one of their best yet. The tentative track list has leaked, and the album itself drops August 2. Anyone else excited about this? Blindside has been one of my favorite bands since around 2001, so I am quite excited to hear this album and see them live again (not to mention they're on tour with my boys from Showbread? Yes? Very yes.). Here's the track list, so far...

The Great Depression
01 - "This Is A Heartattack"
02 - "Ask Me Now"
03 - "Yem Kellr"
04 - "We Are To Follow"
05 - "City of Love"
06 - "Knife In The Table"
07 - "We're All Going To Die"
08 - "Ain't It Something"
09 - "I See Jesus"
10 - "Pretty Nights"
11 - "Eyce"
12 - "My Alibi"

I can't wait to get my hands on this CD.

Neato...I'll have to check it out when it comes out. I've liked Blindside for quite a while also.

YAY!! I look forward to purchasing a copy. Although Gungrave will most likely get to it before I do.

Such awesomeness!!

Ooh, I didn't know they had another album coming out! I don't own any of their CDs, but I really like their stuff that I hear on LaunchCast and ChristianRock.net. I might buy the CD this time--since...I'm hoping I"ll have a job by then.

Nooooo problem. I can understand how you wouldn't like AABF. Honestly, for me it was hit or miss. I thought a little over half of it was fantastic and then the parts that were bad were really bad. Have faith, however, because this is supposedly their "heaviest album yet" from those who have heard early versions of it. I'm very excited about it.

That's good news. AABF was to over-hyped and let you down in my view point.

I just got to sample a few new songs at a Blindside show tonight in Boston. Sounds awesome. One song, they dedicated to this African guy they met...who was dieing of AIDS. Very slow song, but an awesome song. I *think* It was the I see Jesus. Because that was a line in the song.

I can't wait until I get to see them on that tour. I've been listening to the new song on their MySpace "Fell In Love with the Game" over and over and over.

Hmm. Yemkela sounds very "Time Will Change Your Heart", without the singing. It also sounds like it could be on A Thought Crushed My Mind.

I think I like "Fell In Love With the Game" more. Then again, About A Burning Fire was my favorite album by them. You guys can start throwing rocks at me now.

Anyway, I can't wait for this album to land. It sounds like it will be their best so far, because it sounds like it combines AABF and Silence, which rocks.

Ninja Rob, I appreciate you being able to admit that you like About A Burning Fire the most. Why? Because I didn't think that CD was bad. A lot of people thought they wrote crappy songs for it, but I thought they were experimenting with new stuff. I can say that for AABF, there's only a handful of songs I really DON'T like. I can only think of like two off of the top of my head (Die Buying and Swallow).

Anyway, I can't wait for this CD. It's going to be in my hands August 2. For serious.

Strangely enough, I didn't like their most experimental song on AABF, "Shekina". Read my review of the album here.
I think I should have rated some of the songs higher, and I also think that I should have rated the CD as a whole 5 stars instead of 4, but hey, it was my first review.

*looks at last time he wrote a review* Dang. I need to update.

Nice review, I ALMOST agreed with all of it. I would have put Die Buying last and rated Across Waters Again and Shekina higher, but it's not my review in the first place. XD Nice review, though.

So...I'm not sure what I think of this CD yet. I'll need more listens to fully put my opinion on it. I'm liking some of it, but I think this album will end up like AABF was with me. It will grow on me after each listen.

It does, Rob. It was weird for me. I bought it and was so thrilled after I listened to "This Is A Heart Attack", and I was jumping up and down in my car like an idiot, so excited. Then, the album's effect started to wane on me a little bit. However, the bizarre part was I couldn't take it out of my CD player all day yesterday. The album's effect of being great started to come back.

So...I'd say give it more listens. It gets better and better. There are a few tracks that are just like "Wow, that was amazing." and others that get better as you pay attention to the words. Really pay attention to the words on this CD. Christian did such a good job writing them this time, they feel a lot more personal than on About A Burning Fire. Overall, I'm happy with this CD. I'm not thrilled, but I think Blindside is headed in a good direction. I want more sick breakdowns like on A Thought Crushed My Mind, though. Ah well.

I wanted to bump this thing. After several more listens that have been more thorough, I highly recommend this CD. It's a progression of Blindside's sound and it's a good thing. I keep finding new stuff that I like about it. It's definitely better than About A Burning Fire.

As much as it hurts to say it, get Catch For Us the Foxes first. It's so brilliant. No force on earth should stop you from going to get it right now at this very second. The Great Depression is growing on me further. I REALLY, REALLY dig This Is A Heart Attack and When I Remember.

I still think that I'll get The Great Depression first...Seeing as it's much more easily accessed and cheaper for me at the moment. But I sure as heck am gonna get CFUTF sometime soon.

Decent CD. I like it a lot more then I liked AABF. As far as against Silence? Eh I will need to listen to it a few more times to compare em fairly.
