About the Serious Trolls: FBI

Postby Bobtheduck » Tue Nov 18, 2003 3:19 pm

I was looking for a place to report a fraud e-mail (part of the ebay/paypal scam that continues to thrive fore WHATEVER reason) and I remembered this link

When we get serious attacks like one recent attack, we really should take this to an authority. I was going to post this in the "banned members" thread but it was locked, so here we go...

Of course, for anyone who wasn't sure about legal issues for things like digisubs, roms, and those HK discs, you may not want to take a chance if the FBI were to investigate that troll who's name I won't mention for his actions... If it gets looked into, they will be looking at this site all over. I don't think they are going to look into all of us, but I'm just warning you. I think it's better to go without that anime or that game than to hold onto it without being sure if it's ok...

I think that with situations like that troll, we really do need to take Legal action... We can't risk that happening all the time...

I totally agree. -^.^- Boco_T and other such trolls that post such material as he did and/or who organize mass troll attacks should face some consequences. :mutter:

However some people (hehe, you know who I'm talking about, the member who used to have the counterpart to my avatar in his banner ~.^) would need to change their signatures at once if the FBI came around here.

What? Since when is Artemis a counterpart to Milly? You must be one of those people who believes in the canada/bear myth... Modern Radar doesn't lie!

I can prove it with this equation: 2c/124b^3=1/q and q=0

So you see, there is neither a bear nor a canada, because q is infinite!

LOL   The user I'm referring to used to have a Wolfwood banner. Should the FBI come here, it would probably be a wise idea for him to delete these two posts of mine and do a little signature editing for a certain link ~.^

Well if you are talking about me, I have listed the writers names and as such should really not have to worry. They would have to be really bored to go after me since:

1. I say again, I have given credit to the writers.

2. I have the CD.

3. I do not download anything off the internet, need to conserve memory.

4. Does not take narcotics, does not deal in drugs or smuggling rings, has not killed anybody, has not posted anything indecent anywhere, has not stolen, have respected copyright laws, et cetera.

Are you talking about me in any case? :eyebrow:

I am not paranoid just interested.

[Edit: never mind... well you now know that I am a law abiding person, of course I would never have an inkling on how you would think otherwise. ]

TO CHRIS: yeah, but you don't need a complete erase to make it legal and get you out of hot water, only needs to be off your system and all backups. It's not the same as if your computer is evidence in a murder trial, they're not going to search your HD to see if you've DLed digisubs in the past... Even saying "I did at one point, but i delted them all" won't get you in any trouble... They don't bother with digging stuff like that up, it's just they want it to stop and only sue or bring criminal charges when it hasn't stopped. And I can almost guarantee you they don't care about your sig...

For Petes sake Milly...just say Shatterheart. I do read the posts around here ya know....Gee...who on earth could she be talking about ;) As far as FBI. There is nothing in American law that makes Animeniacs illegal....there is nothing that can prove it either way. Is it right? *shrug* If there was somthing the FBI could do about Animeniacs they would be shut down...trust me, there are people who hate them a lot more then you Milly, and they have tried. Anyway...I was going to change my sig a while back...but like everything in life...when people annoy me...or try to tell me what to do...it only makes me feel stronger and want to be a dingus even more. ;) We allow people like you to post anti-animeniacs links, so why the fuss if I post one in my sig? Also...just a note...next time you have a complaint about me...this goes for everyone....rather then make silly posts and play "you know who" games...PM me. Anyway, the FBI can't do squat against trolls like CAA is dealing with. Most of which are perfectly safe within the laws. Read up on what gets people kicked off ISPs and basicly you will get what I mean.

I highly doubt the FBI would bother to be honest.. think about it from the FBI's pespective - it's somebody posting something that offended someone else on the internet. Would require quite a bit of time and effort to trace, better spent fighting more important crimes (eg. trug trafficers etc.)

:) Oh, hey, can you tell me why your user title says "Cowboy Bebop Hater?" You seem to like Cowboy Bebop. . .

and is that character in the bottom banner Vash or Spike? The hair looks like Vash, but the coat looks like Spike's.

On that site, that is considered harassment and punishable by federal law... Check my link, harassment is near the bottom, but it's there, and the FBI is who they direct that to... Those porn trolls definately count as harassment

Sorry this is so late, but I just had to do a little research. I hate to disapoint you guys, but this isn't illegal. My research turned up the following.

The legal definition of harassment according to Black's Law Dictionary is:
"A course of conduct directed at a specific person that causes substantial emotional distress in such person and serves no legitimate purpose" or "words, gestures, and actions which tend to annoy, alarm and abuse (verbally) another person."

This tends to lead me to believe that our friends here would qualify. However, the offical stance of the government would tend to disagree...

Cases that DO NOT constitute harassment:
* Someone who simply disagrees with you, however strongly or unpleasantly.
* Someone who sends you a single e-mail that is not blatantly threatening.
* Spam, even though it is very annoying.
* Messages posted to any open arena, such as newsgroups, message boards, or forums or chat rooms, unless they are forged to appear to have come from you or contain direct threats or libelous statements.
* Information posted on a website.

Cases that DO constitute harassment:
* Repeated communication via e-mail or an instant messaging program after the harasser has been clearly told to stop.

INAL, but I think that's pretty specific.

(NOTE: Posted for reference only. This post not intended to *bump* this thread in any form.)

So you're saying that posting somethign to a public forum that could get them arrested if they were to carry the same picture around and wave it in front of people's faces, even once, don't count on this website? That's a bit rediculous... I still think we should be able to do SOMETHING...
