Anime Modeling

Postby Galant » Mon Jun 20, 2005 8:24 am

I wandered into 'Heroes and Villains' yesterday. A comic store here in Tucson, and was pleasantly surprised to find a bright and cheery store not only stacked with comics and graphic novels, but some choice board games, a decent selection of manga, some anime, posters and then also some, mainly Gundam, models.

That got me thinking, is there much in the way of model kits in the anime world? I used to be into making models, mainly aircraft, when I was younger. I think I might finf a new hobby in anime modelling.

Incidentally, the other bonus to the store was that the kid behind the counter was a Christian. Nice to find!

If you're in Tucson, stop by, they're on Broadway and Swan.

When I saw "modeling," I immediately thought "time to don the schoolgirl uniform and strut my stuff!"

I've built some Gundammy models before, not because I like Gundam (I have never watched a single Gundam) but because they look cool.

I've pretty much only seen anime models in the way of mechas. In other words, the only models I've seen usually come from mecha anime (Gundam, Evangelion, etc.) There are also character models that you put together and paint; these are usually different characters from various shows, but in my mind I would think these would be even harder to paint than mechas because with mechas you're pretty much dealing with angular geometric shapes. This is pretty much what I've seen in various stores and at conventions.

ive also seen models of characters... but they were more like non-movable figures that had their limbs removed, that you put together and they were already "modelified"

XD Ingemar...

I know anime figurines and other merchandise is huge in Japan; doubtless there are models as well. It'd probably be difficult to find them in the US though.

I thought this was going to be about people modelling for anime artists. "Yeah, that could be useful," I thought. "A reference point. Just change everyone to make them skinny and non-human looking..."

Gundam Models...*Immediately thinks of Flay and Lacus* :thumb:
Oh...wrong type of model.
Although one has to admit that Flay and Lacus would certianly make good
models.Lacus especially would make a good role model.
I don't have any anime models but I did do a couple models of the
original Enterprise(No...not the one from THAT show but rather the one
that Scotty referred to as.."..no bloody A..B..C..OR D!").
Personally I'm more into action figures myself.I have one of Buffy on my desk. :thumb:
If there are ever any from Gundam Seed I'd love to get one of Flay
or Murrue. :)

I use to live in Cas Grande Arizona, and have been down to Tuscan alot, it's a cool city, I like it better then Phoenix even! It would probably be difficult to find a model for anime here, but who knows.
