Marked-Down Manga

Postby Alice » Sun Jun 05, 2005 1:49 pm

Do you guys ever find marked down manga?

At this one comic store, I found some cheap stuff the other day. And today, my brother and I found a half-off section, with three shelves full of manga. So we got about five titles, at 5 bucks each.

But... does this happen everywhere? Or just in places where manga doesn't sell well. For instance, the only marked down manga I ever saw in Borders was the three-for-one sale. And I only saw that once.

It happens around here from time to time. Most stores will clearance stuff if it's not selling just to get it off the shelves.

When GameStop discontinued their manga, they were clearancing them for half off...it was pretty cool. XD

I know one store where they will also discoutn trade ins. Also if for some reason there is a bad batch of prints by TOkyopop, say the pages a peear ever so slightly msudged (not enough to really effect the enjoyment, or the cut on a stack was wrong they will give it to those Dollar stores to sell.

Found that out one day when Este went to the dollar store to buy some snacks and pulled a hard to get copy of Getbackers Vol. 1 there for a dollar. Thourhgly **** us off till we decided to go the next delivery day, buy up the stock and put it in the Anime Store. We are Evil.

I'm jealous, Anime Man. They just sell that stuff in the regular stores, here. They don't mark it down, either.

These are the titles I now have from that comic store:

Wild 7: Rule of Kidnapping part 2 a dollar(!) (looks old)

Medabots 2 - 4 ($2.00 each)

Cyborg 009 #1 ($5.00)

Girl Got Game 1 ($5.00)

How is GIrl GOt Game. Been kinda interested in reading it but no one I know has a copy of it.

Also, I think as far the Dollar store thing is thats contracted through TOkyopo so you may be able to get lucky by looknig one near you. No harm in trying at least.

Well, what Dollar Store? I've been to different ones and *never* seen anything like that.

I haven't read Girl Got Game yet but I think there's a thread about it? Maybe you can look it up and see if it sounds good to you.

SOrry, I honestly can not remember the name. I no longer live in that particular state. That was back while I was living New Mexico. I think it was called The Dollar Tree. Thats what I think it was titled.

Also, found the thread. Wasn't sure if there was one or not. Like the search options here makes it a little easier for me to find things and allows me to know if a thread for stuff is already there. I'll have to give the programmars some props for that.

Wow, I'm jealous. My waldenbooks has sales occasionally (a la buy 3, get the 4th free!) but never mark downs like that. I have to say my 440 dollar collection was paid for with just about every penny of what it's worth. *_*

Poor Ashley.... :(

Yeah, I don't see sales that often. I'm surprised at the idea of dollar stores having manga. I've been to Dollar Trees but never seen any manga.

...Although I've noticed coloring books about certain anime shows.

Not saying whether I ever bought any.

Not in Australia. Most manga is around the $20 mark and can be found at specialist comic stores and Electronic Boutique but not much elsewhere. Some manga is $40 a volume (Gunsmith Cats). So expensive! In most situations buying a anime dvd is cheaper than buying a manga volume here.

*bursts out laughing* Oh man, total opposite here. I rarely ever buy anime DVDs because they're so expensive! I usually mooch of my very generous friends. ^^;;

Ha ha! Same here. I've spent roughly 500 on my colection and I've never regetted it (which is rare for me when I spend money!) As far as sales go, you should all sign up for Waldenbook's e-mails. They often send "get 25% off any item in the story" coupons. Those are my friends. *huggles coupons*
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.
