June coloring contest

Postby olorc » Wed Jun 01, 2005 1:07 pm

hello again. This month we have a special treat folks! Mave is letting us use her art to color!! This should be good. She is quite busy at the moment but will get it in soon. For now, I would suggest talking quietly amongst yourselves. Thank you.

Heh Olorc, I responded to your PM yesterday so the 'tomorrow' is actually today. X33

After much digression, I selected this piece. I hope everyone will find this acceptable. (^^)

D'oh! I didn't realise it had already started! All right, count me in! I'll see what I can do with coloured pencils on a small-sized version of this pic.
Thanks for the pic, Mave! I love the dolphin creatures -especially how you've done their eyes and fins.

:hits_self Ok this is my entry! Used Water color pencils for the colouring and A blurring effect in Gimp. The scanned version doesn't give the original much credit but, Oh well!

Thanks Lizard Quuen for explaining that, I was being dumb XD

That's really amazing, Meboeck! I really love the different shades of blue in his hair, And the soft blending of the shaded areas into the normal areas <-if that makes sense  Excellent background too -love how you've repeated the little dolphin, and that texture looks great. ^_^

... :pauses coloring with colored pencils: ... :is intimidated again: -_-.....

:goes back to coloring: Oh well... it doesn't matter as long as I color it right? ^-^ :color color:..

Hey I've got a weird question. o_o So are the regular art contests (where you draw) just... over? Did they quit doing them to do this instead? Its fine if they did. I was just wondering -.-..... I'm sorry.

Meboeck!! You say that's your first coloring job in PS??!!!! Man that's awesome. If you're that good with PS just starting out...*looks at Yeito and also begins cowering with intimidation.*

Um, no the other contest are still operating. Olorc's contest isn't an 'official' CAA contest, it's just something he thought would be fun for us artists, and it certainly has been. As for the official drawing contests...I've only entered once. Most of the time I can't seem to find the monthly thread for it, so you're not alone there.

Yahoo more submissions! This is very interesting for me to see how ppl interpret my lineart. Vernhal, you water colored it? WOW....wow (I can't watercolor to save my life). Say, do you have a higher resolution scan of it? The current scan is a bit blur but I like the soft light colors you've used!

Meboeck, I never thought of blue hair; it's cool! XD For a beginner in Photoshop, that is very good. Nice gradients and cloning of the little one in the background.

Yeito, thanks for your kind comments but pls, don't feel intimidated! :0 Everyone has their own way of doing things so IMO, there's no good/bad coloring style. This is meant to be for fun and a great way to inspire each other.

Hmm....I'm not sure about the art contest. I haven't really heard about it recently too. Maybe I'll drop a note to Inky about this.
