My dad and cancer

Postby TrigunX89 » Sun May 15, 2005 10:46 pm

Hi, everyone. I hate to burden you all with more prayer requests, but I would really appreciate prayer support if you have time.

You see, my dad has had cancer for years now, and he's about to begin on a new treatment. This is a long and grueling process, but it's the best option for him right now. There is no cure for his cancer, but this should at least give him a few years of feeling better.

He's going to the hospital tomorrow morning for lots of chemothearopy. (I think I mispelled that..) He's expected to have to stay at the hospital for the rest of the week, and feeling horrible the whole time. And there are lots of possible side-effects, which can be really bad too.

That's only preparation for what's to come - after he comes home for a couple weeks or so, he has to go to a different hospital for a surgery which will begin another long and grueling process. This will require him to be in the hospital for 3-4 more weeks, and it's said to be very painful. There's a 3% mortality rate.

Ugh, I'm sorry to say all of this. All I'm really trying to do is ask for prayers, that my dad wouldn't suffer any side-effects, but that his treatment would be successful, and that he recovers and handles it well. Most importantly, that God's will be done, whatever that is.

Thank you very much, whoever is reading this.

TrigunX, am joining in with your dad's prayer warriors. A friend who had cancer, to encourage me, reminded me of the words to this very old song "Praise to the Lord the Almighty" that say "ponder anew what the Almighty can do--". May the Holy Spirit enfold your father in His arms and pour his healing power into every cell of your father's body.
But even if we don't feel at ease, God is greater than our feelings and He knows everything. 1 John 3:20

Delight in utter trust.

I'm gonna go visit him in the hospital tomorrow. It sounded like he was doing pretty good today. The worst is said to come. But things should all be better before too long. It's just tough going through the process. He has lots of people praying for him, and I thank you all for your support!

I'm glad he's doing well so far. Yeah, it's pretty tough, when I went through this when I was little I made alot of friends in my ward, and I also saw alot of them pass away, it was a pretty hard lesson to learn when your that little (I was 10) but God got me through it, the sickness, the throwing up, being constantly drowsy, being constantly not able to move, losing my hair, needing to be in constant isolation (Chemo will ravage the immune system, I couldn't go outside too often or anything)...but the thing that got me through it all was family and prayer, and I think your Dad is lucky to have you around to see him TrigunX89, because in all reality the best medicine for him right now is his loved ones. You and the rest of your family is more then enough to take your dads mind off the pain, the sickness, all of it fades when he has you guys there for comfort....so just keep praying for him...God will bring you all through this.

Keep us posted,
God Bless,
Archan

I understand what you and your family is going through, as my mother had cancer several years ago. I'll pray for your dad and for your family.

I went to see him earlier, and he was still doing pretty good. He's tired and not feeling too good, but he's doing a lot better than we all expected. I guess the medicine's effects haven't all taken their tolls yet. Anyways, it's amazing to see how God is working in all of this. My dad has been sharing his testimony with tons of people in the hospital, both the patients and the staff. And they're coming back to him to hear more! One male nurse even got very emotional and shared with his co-worker. It's awesome to see how people are being moved through the Holy Spirit and my dad. He's also had lots of visitors, which is nice. He was telling me that he watched Fullmetal Alchemist too. ^_^ I plan on going back to see him tomorrow. Just thought I'd give an update. Again, I want to thank you all for your prayers. It really means a lot to me.
