Halloween, it's just around the corner.

Talk about anything in here.

Good point, Technomancer.

Volt, the reason Chick Tracts are offensive to me is that they portray Christianity and God in such a fearful, sometimes hateful way. That is not what God is like, and that is not what Christianity should be portrayed as. It's not about fearing the flames of Hell -- it's about a God that loves us so much that he suffered and died for His own creation. We should be preaching love, not fear. That is what makes Chick Tracts offensive.

And if someone is offended by a tract (which, in this case, is highly likely), what are the odds that the tract will lead them to Christ instead of push them farther away?

Technomancer? That was a horrible thing to say. Lies and Misinformation. I have the entire chick track series, and i've read everysingle one down to the discontinued ones. How are they lies when every single comic page has a source and page number to link it's information to a third party source, many times the actuall thing that the chick track speaks against. I have even read the comic book series. There is so much love and faith in those messages that your mind could not bear. Beleave me i have read them all. (well duh, a freind gave me the sample pack with 2 of everything). The messages at the end of ALL chick tracks are a prayer to jesus. Why are you guys so hateful. I guess it's typical for everyone to call anything offensive hate literature. It's not hate to me, i've seen it all. while i don't agree with everything, i agree that tracks are loving and do provide 99% valid information. They have taught people about the proof against evolution, the accuracy of the translations.

In a way i do agree with you technomancer and freinds. Jack Chick is a mere man, just like us. And he makes mistakes just like us. But saying things like that... I disagree with some of his tracks, that they go WAY beyond their purpose in a harmfull way. But if anyone was more informed on Tracks and their meaning, it would be me. I'm seen 'em all and read everything. They aren't like you say they are. Maybe the Halloween series, but please don't stereotype one track with the rest. Reading certain stories from them have truly filled my heart with joy, and thier messages are not hatefull. While i don't support the idea of ONE man's beleife being spread as the 100% right thing. I do stamp the "Pass" mark on some tracks. Other's get a nice red "Denied":banned:. But please don't say things like that. we all mess up. (LOL, i won't forget the time i herd him say that Coffy was bad becasue it was addictive..LOL  , see that gets an F, but the one's about the love of god and his kingdom. they really are joyful things to read.
Thanks for listening.
I'm leaving CAA perminantly. i've wanted to do this for a long time but I've never gathered the courage to let go.

I've read a number of his tracts, they're nearly all worthless.

The existance of citations do not make any assertion true. You merely shift the question of credibility. In the case of Chick, he finds sources just as ignorant and bigoted as himself. In the case of Catholicism for example, a large portion of his information comes from Hislop's "Two Babylons" This is a book that was considered laughable when it was published about a hundred years ago. No competent scholar would have used it then, much less now. Chick also asserts that the Inquisition killed tens of millions of people. You won't find this taught in any university history program. Care to guess why?

When it comes to evolution, it's just as bad. For a start, Chick relies of Kent Hovind. This is a fellow who is already guilty of academic fraud. Hovind's ignorance of basic science is well known, and his description of the theories of and evidence for is hopelessly short of the mark (do you know what a strawman is?). Moreover, his specific arguments are easily eviscerated by anyone who knows the subject.

I'm sure that if you took the time, you could expose similar problems in his other tracts.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I have a few serious problems with Chick Publications as well.. the main one being that they present what has become the stereotyped "narrow minded Christian" to the secular world - driving many non-christians away.

Not only that but they do a great job of causing strife within the Christian world - I didn't have to search far:

http://www.chick.com/articles/frpg.asp

and even worse:

http://www.chick.com/information/religions/catholicism/#unity

Anyways, this thread has really moved off topic and since it's no longer Halloween, I'm locking it.
