one piece

Postby Yeshua-Knight » Sun May 08, 2005 9:50 pm

hey folks, i dunno if anyone else has been watching one piece, the cartoon about pirates that has replaced dragonball gt on cartoon network on saturday nights,
personally, i think that while the artwork in itself isn't all that it could be, i must say that the positive attitude of the main character is quite refreshing among anime characters, this kid's a rubber man in more ways than one he'll bounce back from anything it seems, if anyone else has an opinion about it, i'd be glad to hear it

Ive a little bit of the manga and was surprised when I heard cartoonnetwork was going to air it. I really like the guy with the three sword style. I can't say much else but it looks good.

I used to really like One Piece, but it's just too kiddy for me now.(don't kill meeez) If the episodes weren't so lengthy, I'm sure the story and animation would benefit from it.

It's too bad you guys are watching the awful 4Kids dub/edit. The original version of One Piece is a million times better.

I, for one, like the animation. Oda's art was so strange... though I do think it works better with the manga in black and white.

Whatever. I haven't watched the anime, but I have sections of the manga in Shonen Jump and, sorry to say, have no longer been amused by reading them. The characters are all right, but the story is just dragging, and frankly, I'm tired of plot dragging. It's never fun.

It's too bad you haven't seen the android, speedo-wearing, motorcycle driving character. Eiichiro Oda is a genius.

I totally agree *laughs*. Impact, we actually agree on this.

I think I've watched up to episode 130-something, and still have a ton more to watch. It is one of my all-time favorite anime. 4Kids DESTROYED One Piece and the awesome show it is. I will never watch the "toonie" version.

Anyway, if you can get copies of the unedited versions sometime, if they will EVER be released in America now that 4Kids got their grimy hands on it, you might find it more enjoyable.

The characters continually get fleshed out and the new characters introduced in later episodes just get better and better. Oda's art style is awesome and captures the view of a "world of water" so well. It's just awesome. There are so many layers in One Piece as Luffy becomes the King of the Pirates it is great. Oda is more creative with his multiple worlds and lands than Tolkien.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I think the theme in the dub is a bit silly. So far the only reason I can see for returning every week and watching it is Nami. She seems to be the only
character that is worthwhile to watch. :thumb:

I'm really liking it so far, but all I can say is thank God I'm seeing it fansubbed, I think I'd go into a coma watching the dub. ^^;

Um....I tried to watch it, but it was way too cheesy.

The manga is pretty enjoyable. Unsurprisingly, the English dub really annoyed me.

I've gotten use to the dub (I have to; 4Kids is the only anime station I get. Bleah.).
I really enjoy it (besides some of the wierd voices), but it does tend to drag quite a bit.
Does anyone know if there's an uncut DVD version yet?

There's isn't one yet but 4Kids has said they plain to release it uncut in the future. When is a question though. I guess if worse comes to worse I'll buy the R2 DVDs when I move to Nippon. Though I'll have to pay out the nose... >_<

I've read the manga, going to get 6th volume of it next week, and got to say that it's the best manga ever! Can't say how the anime is, though, but the attitude of the main character, how he doesn't give ppl a choice if they wanna join, and the faces when he says something stupid, it's just so funny! :D

Sounds like the anime, lol. I really do want to try the manga. At least 4Kids didn't get their dirty, grubby little paws on that.

But Viz did. They've recently started making it more kid-friendly by removing all of the "bad words" and even changing names. (Zoro is now Zolo for no reason in the middle of the comic!)

Ah dang it. Stupid Viz. It's already bad enough that they make the reading left to right instead of the traditional right to left. TokyoPop 4 Life.

Er...
But One Piece is right to left.
The only titles that Viz has left to right is Inuyasha along with some of their older stuff...

I noticed that one after having read the a couple of times...Is it just a mistake, or is it supposed to be like that? And, he was called Zolo in the first volume, then in next they called him Zoro, and was back with the original name in Volume 5, wasn't it?

I think it's getting a bit better.I wonder if this is going to turn out somewhat like
Ranma 1/2 where they're going to run into other characters who have also eaten of the Cursed Gum Gum Fruit?(Remember how Ranma and his father Genma keep meeting people who have also fallen into Cursed Springs, that's what I'm referring to.)
Nami still is the best character though.

Okay, I finally got to see a couple episodes of this. (Tonight.)

It looks kinda funny, kinda cheesy, and like it might end up having those run on DBZ plots I hate. (Because you don't get to find out what happens.)

I enjoyed the show. Yeah, the dub was kinda... eh. But all in all, looks like it could be fun. The characters seem neat. If they ran it at a better time for me, I might watch it regularly.

EDIT: Oh yeah and I think that art style must be popular or something. I saw an American manga-type thing with the EXACT art style. (Except it was about a guy with a sword instead of a pirate.) And I saw another Japanese manga with a very similar art style.

Wish I remembered the names... You'll probably see them in Borders.

What's with Sanji's voice?

Read: 4Kids did it.

If I can get some cash, I'll probably go with the fansubs. For now, I'm stuck with the Saturday mornin' version.

I never realized just how bad the dub was till I found a certain "Arlongpark.com". My gosh. I thought the opening was kinda alright, but after hearing (and downloading) all the original openers.... forget matches, give me a blowtorch and gasoline. BURN 4Kids!!!

Oh, and I didn't real mind all the run-on stuff. At least it's not one character powering up, yelling, having their veins about to bust for an entire episode.

One Piece is so off-the-wall with its art and villians, that its actually good. Zoro is good! (Who's idea was it to change it to Zolo?)
"Ah, look, Kouryuu...the birds are returning north. Can you see? ...Kouryuu. Who do you suppose decided birds are free? They can fly wherever they choose...but if there's no branch for them to return to...they might regret having wings, don't you think? Perhaps true freedom...is having a home to return to."

Without question, but of course every anime that gets moved to Cartoon Network has to be run through a strainer that takes most of the good parts out.
