Nausicaa and Porco Rosso AT LAST!!!

Postby DanekJovax » Sat Oct 18, 2003 9:19 pm

Here's a Slashdot article, though it's only days after the ones posted on Nausicaa.net and animenation.com:

http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/10/16/2043231

Which all basically say the same thing: Porco Rosso just showed last week at the Austin, TX Film Festival (a one-time only screening, feh), and the translators involved at the festival mentioned that a dub is in the works for Nausicaa, and some casting was also mentioned...

I've been waiting since 1988 for this title, and it's about ding dang time.

The hostages are finally being let out of confinement...

Hmm... I want to be a voice in an anime dubbing! That would be great, I love voice acting! Yeah... I don't care about dubs really anymore (except nadesico, because I fell in love with the dub...) so as long as I can get them subtitled, I'll be happy.

I LOVED nausica. It was a bit odd, but it's cool. As for PR, I've got it, but haven't watched it just yet. I try to stay away from dubs, though. Most subs capture more of the orignal than the subs... But I digress...

Well, phil, I'll have to agree with you on principle, though in the case of Miramax/Disney, I'll differ with you a little.

Looking at both Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke (which I own both of the DVDs to compare), the dub version loses very little of the 'feeling' of the subbed version, despite many of the scripted lines are very different in several parts.

This is also a much more 'above average' dub job, given the high-level budgeting and talent brought in to do the work.

As long as they keep up this level of quality work, I'll at least not be dissatisfied in the least. To expect more out of the stories, I'll have to become 100% fluent in japanese language/culture. ;2)

Well I finally saw it!

It was actually pretty good. :thumb:

Although I thought...
...the ending was a bit of a letdown. As though Miyazaki wanted you to be able to choose your own ending. Really, I think they should have allowed the audience to experience the emotional release of seeing a happily-ever-after ending (because it seemed like that was what happened anyway).
True.

Well, I couldn't find a better place to talk about it. No one seemed to have written things about it at all, except for a review. No discussion that I could find.

And I may have gravedug worse before... ahem... :red:
