Starting to play the guitar

Postby EnjouNoShisuren » Fri Jan 21, 2005 8:04 pm

Hmmm... >.< this is frustrating...

I am trying to start playing the guitar for a band that some friends (Aku_Soku_Zan and another good friend) and I are starting... anyone have suggestions of the best way to learn? I have been playing Bass guitar for about 7 or 8 years now and I want something new. Would it be easier to learn by using tabs online or just to get lessons? Any advice/discussion is welcome ^.^

Mad respect,

hmm...well, I'm the opposite story as you my friend. I took guitar for about 4 years and switched over to the bass and having been playing bass for about 6 years now.

As for the advice...The main thing is deciding on how well you want to be able to play the guitar, and what type of roll you want to play in the band. If you want to be a song writer/music composition type of person in your band and have a rather thorough understanding of how to create music, then I advise taking lessons to learn Musical Theory, Chord Composition, Rythms, and the like (thats what I did)...however, if you just want to be a "guitar player" then you could probably learn most of the stuff online and from Chord/Scales books, especially since you have had experience with music in the past.

As a fellow musician who happens to have experience in a band, this is the advice I can offer to you from the information that I know. So unless you have any more specific questions thats the best I can do. Good-luck with the band to bro! Perhaps someday we can have a joint concert or something. Rock on!
