Whats your opinon on fighting?

It sounds like some of this is an issue of perspective and interpretation (how we view the situation).

Personally I think much of this comes down to a case-by-case walk with God (or something like that).

To quote Solomon "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:" (Ecc 3:1 NIV)

The question was asked if violence (fighting) would be a good response to attempted rape, to the point of killing the rapist. My answer would be no, not if it could be helped (a swift kick to the groin or a broken leg might be the best use of violence to give the person a chance to run).

It sometimes seems odd that the same God who became man and taught us to "turn the other cheek" also commanded his people to "kill every last one of them" in the OT. Same God (and he never changes) but seemingly different messages.

Generally I'd have to agree with everyone else, that (aside from war) offensive fighting is wrong, it doesn't really solve anything.

Defensive fighting on the other hand, well, that's more of that case-by-case thing.

Thanks for the understanding, Eirewolf. I've already been over a few things in pms, as oldphil could probably tell you. At the moment, I think I'm just going to leave the issue be.

One thing I will say, that really doesn't address anything brought up, but I'd like to point out anyway. So I hope no one reads any meaning into this. Anyway, I reject the concept of analyzing the overall damage. By this I mean the logic that if the bad guy is going to kill two people, it is okay to kill him. It isn't our job to weigh human life like that. I mean, by that logic, if you kill every human being on the planet, you'll reduce the total pain and suffering by quite a bit (assuming the Earth lasts a few more years).

I agree with you that it's not our job to weigh human life. I recant the statement I made that implied such a thing. There's no way for me to know what this guy would do after killing me. (But I'm still not going to sit quietly and let him murder me, as my life is also precious.)

You should avoid fighting if you you can. But if yout face with almost certain death situation if you dont fight back, Whta would you do then, what should one do. Defending others calls for a more offensive state of mind to be ready. but when its just yourself that your defending I dont know about you but I'd rather try to work it out and take a few even a lot of hits for the sake of no blood shed. but its extremely difacult to do. When you get dragged into somthing of violence that had no original bussiness in thats no exscuse either to punch somone. IF the situation calls for a physical fight be careful how far you take ti. You never know what's going in the other persons head. You dont know how bad their temper is.
