Today sucks. I absolutely hate everything about this matchup.

I have to abstain because either way I will feel like a terrible person.

[quote="TWWK (post: 1520772)"]Goldy, Usagi Drop is also groundbreaking - a series about a girl and her adoptive dad that's genuinely about their growth as people developed through their familial love. Not exactly usual fare for an anime.

So despite enjoying Nichijou, I'll go with this groundbreaker:

You know, most people here who haven't seen either of the series usually abstain.

Just saying.

Anyway:

<日常>

While Usagi Drop is no doubt superior in craftsmanship. I just plain enjoyed Nichijou more. Usagi will make you smile, but Nichijou will make you howl with laughter.

Oh, I'm fully aware of the deer-wrestling present in Nichijou, however, deer are not the only animals to be wrestled with.

I was fortunate to see The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya almost right after finishing the second season of the series. As someone wanting something "more" after suffering through Endless Eight, The Disappearance satisfied that need and beyond.
Stretching your mind as far as it can go and putting a twist on a famous Christmas themed story, this topped the charts for one of my favorite anime movies.

Just as with Goldy, this is among my favorite anime movies. In true Haruhi style, the film was a miss-mash of genres - humor, school life, sci-fi, romance, violence - and was surprisingly powerful and moving.

It's just superior in every way. I couldn't get over the feeling that I needed to have played the game or know more of the backstory of Persona 4 to actually enjoy it.

Also Blkmage, could we make it a rule for future contests that if you haven't seen at least one of the series you can't vote? It probably would have been beaten in a tie breaker round anyway, but it still bothers me.

I actually haven't seen Disappearance yet, which (obviously) would normally make me disqualify myself from voting. However, the reason I decided to vote for it in these awards (at least until it goes up against one of my top three that I *have* seen) is threefold: #1, I am currently reading-- and really quite enjoying-- the novels; #2, I've heard from multiple sources that the Disappearance movie is both beautifully animated and also extremely faithful to the original material, both of which (and, as I'm sure you'd guess if you've seen my previous adaptation rants , particularly the latter!) make me very eager to watch it (which I will do as soon as I get through the book), as well as making me fully expect it to be awesome; and #3, relevant to this specific match, I currently have no plans to watch Persona. :P So, Haruhi it is!

(*EDIT* after seeing what Falx posted right as I was writing: Wow, that's some really eerie timing there! 0_0 And now I feel awkward... :red::red::red:)

My only problem is that it sort of makes the whole idea of a contest meaningless, especially if said contest's agenda is to choose which show was superior, if people can vote without having seen the things they're supposed to be judging and critiquing. It's like giving "Al's Steakhouse" 5 stars and "Le Snob Cuisine" 1, without having eaten at either. Even if the truth is that Al is just super good at steaks and Chef Pierre hacks a loogie into every plate of escargot, how would you even know?

I've thought about doing this probably around the time of the very first match last year, but eventually decided against it mostly because I thought it'd be too much work to try and enforce.

I'm not particularly against imposing a rule like this, although I'd like to hear some feedback from everyone about how they feel about requirements like this (watched one of the shows, all of the shows, etc.).

The best thing to come out of the Haruhi series to date and the start of things to come later on in the series. Being stunningly beautiful and having fantastic direction certainly don't hurt.

I think it sounds nice in principle, but we have such a low number of voters (I recall seeing less than ten votes total in some of the elimination rounds) that I don't think making it more difficult to vote would be a good idea.

Also, many people are imposing the rule on themselves in light of the fact that you don't have to vote every round. Maybe just a note in the preliminary text next year encouraging voting based on knowledge?

Oh, I agree-- and, as I mentioned, in that situation I would normally just not vote. However, for multiple reasons (reading and enjoying the source material, the apparent faithfulness of the movie to that material, and many trusted reviews) I'm pretty certain that I want to vote for it in this case.

I'm getting a bit annoyed at my library now, though, for holding me up... :shady:

As long as it's just having to have seen one of the two shows in a match in these later rounds, I don't think that would be much of a problem. (And hopefully by then I'll have worked out some better timing with the library... :P)

Based 100% on a video game. The anime of Gungrave is an alternate retelling of the original video game. It's different from the video game setting.

About not voting in a round if one hasn't seen both series matching off - I don't think that should constitute a rule. While it'll skew results...I think this is just the nature of voting. This is why the Oscars are sometimes a farce and other voting competitions sometimes don't award the most impressive individual/performance/piece in that medium.

And I also think it's fine for a, say, Redline fanboy vote like crazy against Hourou Musuko, even if he hasn't seen it. And this is coming from a person who hated seeing the latter lose against the earlier previously.

OBJECTION! I like that you can vote without seeing either. For example, I haven't seen Disappearance. But I have seen the original Haruhi Suzumiya series. If I like the series, I should be able to support the franchise. Also, in the case of Bunny Drop, some of us have only read the manga. However, that does give a person license to at least support the series.

Oh and my vote...

I DO want to see it though, and I'll gladly go watch a few episodes to make my vote official if needed.
I feel kind of bad now, seeing as they were so close in votes.
