Your favorite horror anime

Postby rocklobster » Sat Oct 29, 2011 6:03 am

In honor of Halloween, I want to know what your favorite horror-themed anime is. I'm going with Blood+ and Boogiepop Phantom.

Aoi Bungaku
Higurashi

are both two series that I really enjoy that are horror-themed. They're above and beyond the other horror anime I've seen so far. Monster is nice, but I honestly consider it more of a mystery series.

Though I will say the scariest thing I've seen wasn't an anime, it was the manga Ibitsu. Scared the pants off of me. I'm also fond of the manga Bizenghast for horror.

Probably Shiki for specifically horror vein. Though I am enjoying Blood+ a ton so far. Not sure what else I've seen that would count as horror.

Blood: The Last Vampire and When They Cry are right up there for me, and so's Madoka Magica if it counts.

Uh, I thought Ergo Proxy was cyberpunk, not horror.

Macross Zero is probably the most horrific show I've ever seen.

It usually isn't considered horror, but I can see how it can be considered to have horror elements. It's kind of like Blood+ like that- it's there in the background most of the time or not that obvious. Actually, when I think about it, if I were reviewing Ergo Proxy, I would consider putting it in the horror genre because of certain elements it has. I wouldn't put Blood+ anywhere near the horror genre because the vampire thing is used merely to give a twist on the action genre, not to scare the viewer.

Hmmm....

Ghost Hunt is pretty good (still need to finish it). I also love xxxHOLiC, but I'm not sure if that really qualifies as a horror anime (it can be more of a dark comedy sometimes, actually). But I think it qualifies enough? It can get pretty freaky sometimes, especially in xxxHOliC Kei!
