Well, apparently a heart attack wasn't enough to make my dad stop smoking. :shady:

Don't get me wrong, I know how hard it is to stop smoking. I've watched my dad struggle to stop almost all my life. But I mean... if he doesn't stop, either of two things are going to most probably happen.

Either one....

He gets a heart attack that is much worse than his last one or....

My mom gets so totally sick of his excuses to smoke, she divorces him. I've heard them yelling at each other, and my mom's brought up the subject of their marriage many times during their fights. And all I can do is sit in my room and hope and pray that they don't get divorced....

So yeah. Please pray that neither of the above happen, and that my dad stops smoking. Otherwise......

Thanks in advance.

Praying, my grandpa was told by the doctors that if he didn't want to die he needed to stop smoking. He started with snuff instead which was better than smoking at least. I hope your dad finds a way out of the addiction.

I'll be praying to. I know how you feel kind of, my dad smokes like a chimney and refuses to stop and my parents have been seperated for years.

It's not whether you can or can't do it, it is if you do it or not. Nothing comes easy in this world, especially a job or money. I rely on Jesus to get me through these hard times of persecution.

Ugh.

Today, my dad fell asleep at the wheel, with my mom, my sister, and me in the back seat. When my mom yelled at him to wake up, he got really mad. And started pushing the gas pedal like heck and swerving. And when we got home, he stayed outside, and didn't come into the house till a few minutes ago, sparking an argument between my parents again, as staying outside usually means he's smoking.

My mom recently got interviewed. I'm really really really hoping that she gets this job, so that we can have the money to send my dad to counseling. My sisters are going to talk to my grampa, whom my dad really respects, and try to get him to tell my dad that he needs counseling. Though I think both my parents need counseling, like for marriage or something, because they're really getting in bad fights.....

Please continue praying. And thanks for the prayers.

Praying. That's terrible! If he's upset because someone tried to stop him from accidentally killing all of you, then there's deeper issues than just smoking.

Sorry to hear that.

Still praying for em.

The best counseling comes from the Lord.
I encourage you to encourage your parents to pray. You can pray with them individually, that's fine. Help them think about Jesus. The relationships that last are those that are Christ-centered.

If that were the case, then Christians would never need counselors. Praying is good, but they obviously need a third party to help them work out their differences and open communication.

Once again, you read too much into my words. But whatever. I'm not going to argue since this is someone else's thread. Maybe you should start a thread.

Yeesh. Am praying. And hopefully your dad will be able to get into counseling to help him, because (as it's been said) it sounds like it's more than smoking that's the issue here. :(

*sigh* Thank you for the prayers, but it's still not good news.

This is getting really bad. My dad and my mom got in a huge fight on Sunday, and they had another one today.

My parents celebrated their 26th anniversary in the last few weeks of April. All that's happening is seriously making me wonder if they're going to make it to their 27th....

My dad's been falling asleep more often now. And the thing is, he doesn't even know he's falling asleep, and gets really mad when my mom tells him to wake up because he sincerely believes that she's just over-reacting. On Sunday, he was making a turn, and didn't see a guy who was about to cross the street. He almost ran him over, but he stopped just in time. He got so mad that he didn't see him or something (I'm not entirely sure of the reason) that he banged on the wheel, dropped an f-bomb, and stepped on the gas really, really hard. My heart hasn't raced in fear like that for a loooooong time. This was the reason that they (my parents) got in a fight on Sunday.

Four years ago, my dad became so angry at me that he shook me and pushed me down on the floor, causing my cheek to come into contact with a chair leg. It developed into a huge bruise. I'm starting to get scared that this will happen again. And I really don't want it to happen for two reasons.

1. I've found out that my sister, who saw my dad do this, was really angry at him for doing so, and could barely keep back tears of regret that she wasn't able to stop him. And that's something because she rarely, RARELY cries. If he does something like this again, she's going to go into self-denial again. And I don't want her to.

2. It's going to seriously widen the gap between my parents, which is wide enough as it is already.

Again, thank you for prayers already said, and please, keep praying. Thanks so much, it really means a lot.

I'm very sorry to hear this.

Because you say that he's falling asleep, and it's coupled with these mood changes, I want to bring up the idea that it could be that there is a physiological reason that things are so bad. He really might not realize that there's an issue and that he is falling asleep. Your mom really should attempt to get him to a doctor and see if there is something causing him to fall asleep and not realize it.

In the meanwhile, because it's become like this, I'll be blunt- don't get into a car while he's driving. It's obviously been a danger more than once, and if things continue to get worse, then you're all putting your lives at risk.

EDIT- and just because I know that I have confused those words- physiological = medical

This. ^ And if you feel like you are in danger, try to see if you can stay with a friend. It will be much safer there. Praying! God bless!

Definately will be praying. Wow.

It is possible he is Bipolar or suffering from schizophrenia. You definately need to have someone see him immediately before things escalate to a point of no return. Talk to your family about this and see if you can do it as soon as possible.

Also, like Atria said, I advise you to not get in the car with him at all. This dangerous behavior of falling asleep at the wheel and almost running over someone can lead to horrible events taking place afterwards. For your sake, it will be wise if you only ride with your mom, or another adult you can trust.

You know...The reasons might be medical, not mental. My Mother is Diabetic, and she used to be really tired. Also, when her sugars were low, she used to get explosivly angry.
Just some stuff You might want to consider.
I'll keep on praying

I will pray. May God be with you and your family. Let His love flow through your household. Let his beauty be your guide in hard times. Hear his voice. Laugh, cry, scream. Don't forget he is there. Don't forget we are backing you all the way. Continue to be strong. Sometimes, dark times are the times when He shines the brightest. Be a mirror and reflect his light into the lives of those around you. I will pray for you.
