Favorite flags

Postby Yuki-Anne » Sun Apr 17, 2011 3:55 am

Now before you say anything, this isn't a political discussion. It is purely aesthetic.

I recently bought a t-shirt with a British flag on it. I really like the British flag; it's one of the coolest, IMO.

I know flags represent a lot, but sometimes you see some really great creativity on some country's flags. Some countries look like they just kind of slapped three colors together and called it golden, but some countries have some really cool designs.

So what's your favorite flag?

I like England's and South Korea's, as well as Japan's old Imperial flag. And whichever country has the griffin.

And, admittedly, the US flag is pretty spiffy.

I'll always the US flag since it's the one I live under, but I do also like how it's evolved over the time this country has existed.

The Union Jack the the UK is a favourite flag design of mine aswell, along with the Australian, Welsh, and the Soviet Union flag based on aesthetics only.

Colorado's State flag is the best in my opinion (mostly because that means "home"). But I really like the simplicity yet meaning of the Japanese flag. All in all though, my favorite is the banner of St. George (a white plane behind a simple red cross).

Any flag that sports the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch is okay in my book. :P

Bosnia and Herzegovina's flag:

I find it insteresting in that it's design is so against the traditional appearance of flags. It's stars run right off the flag, resulting in two of them being cut in half.

The Commonwealth of Independant States:

And my favorite "what the heck?" flag is from the French region of Limousin:

The old Libyan flag (I didn't even know they made a new one). It's the most environmentally-aware.

The Israeli flag is pretty darn deep:

And I find the hammer and the sickle of the old USSR flag intriguing as well as the star and crescent moon of Turkey, Pakistan and Algeria...

I also really like the medieval motif of the flag of Georgia: http://www.mapsofworld.com/flags/georgia-flag.html

It's not whether you can or can't do it, it is if you do it or not. Nothing comes easy in this world, especially a job or money. I rely on Jesus to get me through these hard times of persecution.

Well aside from Old Glory, here's some other flags I like:
Image The Vatican City flag (it's almost required for me to like this one. I'm Roman Catholic, after all)
Image My state flag (Cajun represent!)
since it's already in Atria's post, I won't repost the Isle of Man flag. You're right, Atria. That is definitely unique.
and finally:

The Mexican flag. How can you not like it? It's got an eagle killing a snake! That's just awesome!

The United States has a pretty cool flag all things considered.

Nepal definitely thought outside of the box.
