Barney bashing

Postby aliveinHim » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:16 am

When I was little, I watched Barney all the time. Now, I strongly dislike Barney. This might sound absolutely retarded but I get really sad when people insult Barney. I have no idea why but I just do.

Are you a Barney lover or hater?
"And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." I would say that I never hated Barney, but I never like Barney as a child.

Barney bashing is a cultural necessity in most schools. At least it was in mine.

This is Barney:

Barney and Friends

Now, I did like the show as a kid. Now it just kind of gives me the creeps.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz8GY2gifdc. I always spoof the theme song. Can someone do me a favor and tell me what instruments are used in the background music? There was this hysterical video about what Barney should be like contrasted with the philosophy it brainwashes kids yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBQw-SoKXSk&feature=related. This used to be my confidence booster when I was 5.

Barney the Dinosaur is a plot to control the world by turning your kids into mindless zombies. It's succeeded. Why do I say that? Because SAT scores are getting lower and lower and have been ever since that purple menace debuted.

I am indifferent about Barney.

If there's anyone on PBS Kids people should be hating on, it's Caillou. Miserable little brat.

Oh My Gosh! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2LRnd0o-5U Funniest thing ever! I hate Caillou! He's got a basketball for a head. Well, I've always wondered why Barney's head is shaped like a hexagon.

I loved it as a kid, while at the same time singing rather violent parodies of the theme song (you're probably familiar with the ones). When I got a little older past the target audience (around 10-11 or so) I'd watch it because nothing else was on and it didn't bug me. However I haven't seen it as an adult, so I have no ideas what my opinions are on the matter at this point.

This.

The baby in the sun freaked me out SO much.

Not to mention the main characters themselves...*shudder*

I never understood the point of the Teletubbies. The didn't do anything, at all.

I liked Barney when I was real little, but grew out of it really fast.

I think the only show I remember really liking was Mr. Rogers.

I'm not allowed to watch Teletubies because mommy is afraid of them. I'm not allowed to watch Boobah either. The best PBS Kids show has to be Arthur. My 18 year old brother still likes it. It never gets old.

I'm sorry but that is probably one of the most hilarious things I've heard in quite some time.

And I still love Arthur myself.

Oy vey? Are you talking about Arthur the Aardvark who for some reason looks more like a mouse? (because we all know aardvarks are too bloomin' ugly to appeal to kids).

I really, really don't like how the kids end their songs on Barney with that up-note at the end...it drives me crazy. Other, more substantial issues with the show annoy me, also, but I can't deny that he's loveable. My kids love Barney.

And...Caillou? WHAT?! I think he's about the best thing on PBS Kids (for little ones at least - Arthur and Word Girl are terrific shows for older kids). He acts a lot like young ones do, faults and all, but provides a strong model for being kind to others (and siblings).
