Just to say, I have read the reveiw here. So in light of that:

Does the series stop going, uh... homo? I previewed the first ten eps then bought it on Blu ray, but it keeps going downhill. Homosexuality is one of the few things that will make me drop a series, and so it seems disapointing to have spent so much on a series I wont watch much...

Note: I'm not talking about the twins here. Faking I can stand to a point. In fact, the twins and the main guy( I forgot his name...) appear to be the only actually straight characters so far.

There are two episodes with the Lobelia Girls Academy, which are 9 and 19 I /think/. You can easily skip those and not miss anything. Haruhi's dad is crossdresser/(gay?), yes, but he only comes in during one of the Lobelia episodes and the episode he's introduced in. Mori and Huni are straight, just their relationship of protector/protectee is spoofed and dramatized to the point of coming across slightly iffy.

Oh, there is a character who is one of Haruhi's "dad's friend from work." i.e. he is another crossdresser, but he is only in two episodes and once again. Fairly spoofed.

Pretty sure that is all.

I thought Haruhi's dad was just a crossdresser, not a homosexual. It's not the same thing.

He seems to be pretty much just a crossdresser, though he does act homosexual past just dressing as a woman--such as bordering on flirting with the ouran guys. While he may not be homosexual in the strictest sense (he married Haruhi's mother), there is still enough there to warrant a "homosexual content" warning. Though I should have made homosexual/crossdressing distinction. My apologies. =)

Actually there's plenty of gays who marry women, even have kids with 'em. Doesn't make 'em not gay, any more than putting feathers on you makes you a chicken. :p

Although I haven't seen the show, so I'm not saying the dude is definitely gay (and as Nette said, being gay and cross-dressing aren't interchangeable). I just wanted to point that out. XD

Also, you're ignoring that the guy could be bisexual. :p That'd cover why he flirts with guys and why he married a woman. XD

He's pretty thoroughly stated to be a crossdresser, not gay.

Yeah, Haruhi's dad has clearly stated he's only a crossdresser. Because of that, he works in a bar that has crossdressing guys serving liquor to guys.

Mori and Honney.... Definitely more of a protector relationship. I've read the manga, and it's brought more to a front in the anime, probably because of the time constraints that they have in it making it necessary to emphasize their relationships.

And Kaori and Hikaru really only play their "relationship" for fans- they aren't sexually into eachother at all. The reasons why they are so attached to eachother, though, are explained later in the anime.

I thought it added to the hilarity >>; I dislike the Lobelia girls, but the Host Club laughs them off and it makes me laugh, and Renge goes bonklers with that stuff, but I just go "AAG!" and laugh later. Personally, I don't think it really takes away from the anime/manga in any way at all. The Manga is amazing! So if you can't stand the anime, the manga is just as good. ^^ IF NOT BETTER!

Actually the cross dressing isn't what I had an issue with. Er... as much. (That sounded awkward... ▬_▬) Anyways, it is Honi and Mori. In the Anime, it pushes the relationship past protector/defendee. They set up and state the protect relation ship, then one or two eps later say that it's more than that. I think it was around the resort episode, like 2 or three after that. But I'll stick it in again when I have some free time, since it sounds like it leaves off from focusing on that. Thanks all! n.n/)

Aren't Mori and Honey distant relatives? Or is only that Mori's family has a kind of allegiance thing for Honey's?

Honey and Mori get very little focus... and it's all about their bodyguard/family relationship. (They're cousins.) I have no idea where you're seeing anything beyond that really.

correct. I'm trying to quote it as accurately as possible, but basically Haruhi's dad says that "I will never love another woman besides [haruhi's mom]." He also works at a tranny bar.

on mori and hunny, i get where your coming from [its your classic tough guy and shota character relationship] but again, its more like brotherly love than anything else. mori is a little overprotective of hunny, and hunny, well, is cute little hunny. they are not gay. you could almost infer that about any of the ouran guys. even kyouya and tamaki's running "mommy and daddy" joke could be taken that way. why did the author do this? the series itself is a parody on all the shojo stereotypes, and the things that fangirls like, and well, you've got everything that fangirls go crazy over. thats wat makes it so hilarious.:thumb:

and about lobelia: thats actually making fun of the takarazuka troupe of all-female performers in japan.

in summation, dont worry: there is no real shonen ai in this series.

Oooh Takarazuka! I forgot about that! LOL YES. That is why they exist. I've seen a Takarazuka musical online somewhere...(Elizabeth) and...they are very well spoofed on in the show XDDD.

After the episode with Mori/Huni, it's never brought up again that I can remember. I've seen the series through multiple times and the only time I can think of any Huni/Mori awkwardness is the "Huni's Three Bitter Days" ep. :)

In the fan subbed series the Japanese is translated something approximately as:

"You know I've always been bi, but once I met [Haruhi's mother] I've decided to love only one person"

The official subs / dubs may not address this in the same way; it's been a long time since I watched the DVDs.

Yeah, like everyone else has said, I've never detected any sort of homosexuality from Honey and Mori. Fangirls will interpret it that way like they always have, but they're good friends, and Mori feels an obligation to serve Honey because of their family's histories.

Also, Honey is the best character because he goes for the whole Obfuscating Stupidity thing but has a better idea of what's going on than anyone else.

Oh, are you talking about the one where:
Hani/Hunny gets swept away by the river and goes missing in the jungle and Mori is all panicked since they can't find him? The episode, I suppose, can be read in different ways. Mori is so worried because he has failed at protecting Hunny (which is his job and keeps his family's honor un-tarnished), thus finding Hunny is the most important thing. Yet, this episode also helps Mori lighten up a bit and start to make friends with Haruhi especially, instead of being "protect Hunny all the time and act all serious face. B[". Plus, Mori and Hunny are good friends with this protector/protectee relationship, which can seem a bit odd at times, I suppose. :\ It's like having an overprotective friend, really. XD;
That's my best guess on what you're referring to; but if I'm incorrect, you may have to be a bit more specific.

The "Hunny's Three Bitter Days" episode can apply to the above explanation as well, I think.

Huh? *has read Ouran and watched the anime and is really confused* Wait, your saying that only Hikaru, Kaoru, and Tamaki aren't homosexual would make Kyoya... nevermindthat.

Anyways, just skip the Lobelia episodes if that really bothers you. None of the guys in the Host Club are homosexual at all. This is the reason they are in a Host Club: so that they can entertain girls! That seems pretty straight to me. And if you're talking about Hunny and Mori, I agree with Tsukiyomi entirely. And what everyone else has been saying about family loyalty.

Uh... on the subject of Haruhi's dad... I have nothing to say that hasn't already been said.

And yes! Ouran is a parody of typical shoujo-ness! And it's making fun of how fangirls tend to freak out over things like that (this is Renge's purpose)! Heh. I know a lot of people who don't believe that, though.
