DC disses Marvel to explain why there'll never be a JLA movie

Blastr wrote:Marvel's movies have been telling one long interlocking story, what with Iron Man and Captain America feeding into The Avengers, while DC's movies ... haven't. You might think this has been an entirely economic decision. Not so, said DC's chief creative officer today.

Geoff Johns, speaking at New York Comic-Con, explained there were no plans for a Justice League of America movie that would team up its big guns a la Marvel's Avengers flick. But he didn't let it go at that, making sure to get a dig in at his competition while clarifying why they weren't going the shared-universe route like Marvel.

"I'm going to speak frankly: I think our characters are bigger than Marvel's," said Johns, adding that the company had chosen to spend its time building each character rather than "smashing them together."

Leaving aside whether that was a cocky thing to say, do you think there's any truth to the statement? Does Marvel need to sew its films together because its characters are too ... small?

Considering the fact that the first two Iron Man movies alone have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, Marvel's heroes don't seem small to us. But what do you think?

OH SNAP!

Personally I like Marvel hero's better they seem more real (personality wise) and I like that, that's not to say I don't like DC but Marvel is my preference.
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.

I'm completely at a middle ground with the Marvel vs DC issue, but can't help but think that Geoff Johns is being a little bitter. Whereas Marvel movies have been going strong a lot of projects from DC (Wonder Woman, the JSL movie, Superman, Aquaman) have deeply troubled production histories. Comparatively DC has been lagging behind Marvel and now seem to be trying to save face.

I get the feeling Geoff Johns is jealous of how well Marvel is doing (and I'm not even a Marvel fan). :)

Before Disney bought Marvel all the plans for the movies where on the rocks. The only reason the movies are going forward is because of Disney's deep pockets. He believes what he said. From his point of view the only reason DC movies cannot get done is because they are to big to make.

I like the DC superheroes better than the Marvel ones, simply because they act more heroic and to me are more interesting than most of the angst of the Marvel characters.

However, aside from a few flukes *coughwolverinexmencough*, the movies about Marvel characters are a lot better than most of DC's stuff. Then again, Marvel simply has more movies period. DC really only has Superman and Batman, so it's hard to fairly compare the two.
