Overdone women: Does this bother you too?

The real heart of CAA; discuss specific series, issues, and things related to anime here.

Haven't seen many natural human beings lately have you? :p

Seriously, Rushuna is pretty well-endowed (especially given her age) but it's hardly unrealistic. It may be rare, but there are women with natural chests that large in real life. Midgets aren't exactly common and you won't see 'em walking down the street every day, but they still exist...so I wouldn't look at an anime with a midget character and go "He's freakishly small for any natural human being!" Midgets exist. Women with huge chests exist. dealwithit.jpg

Now that said, there ARE anime shows out there with breasts that are just impossibly large. I recommend nobody on CAA look this up, but a good example is the anime Eiken. Most of the female characters in that literally could not exist with those proportions in the real world.

Not picking on you, Josh, nor am I picking on anyone else here necessarily, but geez people. I can understand not liking fanservice. That makes total sense. But to just outright hate a character for just having a large chest? I feel sorry for some of our more well-endowed female members here if anyone automatically assumes "Oh look at her chest, she's clearly promiscuous/immoral." For the guys I feel it's a bit of denying responsibility ("It's not MY fault I had lustful thoughts, this temptress has such a large chest I couldn't help it, it's HER fault!") and for the girls I feel it's a bit of envy and sour grapes ("Why can't MY chest be that big? Oh well, it's for the best...if it was, I'd probably be as slutty as her.")

Sorry if it sounds like I'm being judgmental. To be fair, I suppose I kind of am. I suppose it's because I know a lot of large-chested females and most of them hate it, and to have a thread going "Boy we sure do hate females with large chests" has GOT to be hurtful to some of them.
Seriously, episode one has her reloading her gun by giving a very convenient bounce and swinging her gun around, each bullet landing in the appropriate chamber.

Not just episode one. That's pretty much the premise of the whole series. :p She also fights another rival female character who can do the same thing.

Yeah it's stupid. But no more stupid than most anime physics and fighting styles. Just more sexualized.

I know that women come in all sorts of sizes. My only issue is whether or not it's all hanging out. Then some anime merely exists so people can draw gigantic boobs that defy gravity... and reload guns...

what? There's some stupid anime out there, I tell you what.

I'm not saying I automatically hate women drawn this way. (It did take me awhile to like some of them. Tsunade from Naruto comes to mind) I just think it's sad that women are portrayed this way. In case you folks are wondering, I don't judge by looks, I judge by personality.

I don't think of it as a problem except when the character is drawn that way because its made to entertain the boys watching the anime, which happen to be the case very often.

...except in your opening post you say, "One of my big pet peeves in anime is the fact that they can't stop drawing women with huge cleavage" and the poll says "Does it annoy you when you see anime with women who have exaggerated cleavage?"
I just think it's sad that women are portrayed this way.

Portrayed what way, with large chests? So, do you think it's sad that women in real life have large chests? The more you talk the more you come off like I said in my post.

I don't get the point of this thread. No really, I don't. You can say "It bothers me when large breasts are used for fanservice. Okay, fine. So then does it NOT bother you when women with small breasts are used for fanservice? What about when women with average breasts are used for fanservice? I'm sure you'd say "That bothers me too." Okay, great! We've established you don't like women's chests used for fanservice. I think we can all agree on that! So then why single out women with large chests?

And plus, as I keep pointing out, everything you keep saying is going to make girls upset. Like your last statement. "I think it's sad women are portrayed with large chests." Now you've made some of the female members of this site feel uncomfortable and like it's sad for them to have chests their size. You're making them feel bad by saying stuff like that. Women in real life have large chests, so why in the crap is it such a big deal for women in anime to be drawn with them?

I rephrase my statements;
@ nate: yep, love hina's anime does it, and less so than the manga, but if people are gonna mince words on whether the gal was twelve or thirteen, and then defend the practice of sexualizing said kids, then they need to eat some salt peter. Seriously.
@ Atria - never contested that. But then again, you aren't advertising yourself incessantly for the sexual gratification of sheeple. Anime characters are advertised as such.

@mrkrillzor, I have yet to see a case when it wasn't. Sex sells, and anime is no exception.

Except no, it doesn't.

I have read Love Hina. I have watched the entire anime. I have seen Love Hina Again, the sequel series. Unless you classify B cups as enormously huge breasts (and if you do, I don't know what to say to you), NONE OF THE YOUNGER FEMALE CHARACTERS IN LOVE HINA HAVE LARGE CHESTS.

I don't know what anime you're thinking of, but it is NOT Love Hina. I will go get some freaking pictures if I have to to prove you wrong. It's no skin off my back.
but if people are gonna mince words on whether the gal was twelve or thirteen, and then defend the practice of sexualizing said kids

And I defended it where, exactly? Please point it out to me. I'd love for you to show me where I defended it. Should be easy, right? I mean, assuming you're not making stuff up.
sheeple.

Ha ha oh man you used that word unironically? Wow...just...wow. I don't even know what to say to that.
Anime characters are advertised as such.

I have a feeling if there were characters with large chests that didn't use them for fanservice you'd still complain.

This is fine if he hasn't made you feel bad, but everyone is different. Someone could call me a stupid moron and I'd probably go "Yeah, well, that's true." You could call someone else a stupid moron and they'd cry and want to commit suicide. That doesn't give someone the right to call everyone a stupid moron just because it doesn't bother me. And even if someone called just me a stupid moron, I would hope people would call that person out on it and said "Hey you shouldn't say that to him even if it doesn't bother him because it's rude."

It's when endowment leads to sex object when it bugs me. There are some very well-endowed ladies in reality, and whether they appreciate it or not they can't help being so. If a character shows cleavage it only bugs me when that is their sole purpose for existing.

And now that Nate mentions it, I haven't run in to a ton of anime where characters are busty solely for the sake of fanservice. Which may make for why it's more frustrating when it does happen.

Oh, I definitely thing Disney is not above reproach. They're awful about using fantasy-proportioned women to sling about morals of women needing men to fulfill their happiness. Granted, those fantasy proportions aren't often equalling heavy-endowment, but that may have more to do with the fact that Disney's target audience is little girls. That's not really something they'll latch on to. Still, the outfits tend to be quite revealing, if we want to be prudish about it.

Eh, I think that the problem isn't being well-endowed, but rather the tendency for any given media to turn women (and men) into objects instead of people.

I like the fact that it seems like only Nate read my post. XD (thank you, Nate, btw).

Anime is not really known for being realistically drawn. In fact, it's supposed to be exaggerated. That's what makes it interesting to look at, funny, wonderful and sometimes beautiful (I mean, come on, people don't have eyes that big in real life, why should breasts or anything else on the characters have to be "realistically proportional"?). Good anime (sadly, not all) mostly focuses on story and character personality as being more realistic than the realistic accuracy of the art.

Not that the art issue is out of the way, I'm not cool with women only being treated as objects and not people. Though, it's a sad reality in the real world. So, that is "realistic" in a way.

Nate, buddy, I don't condone any fanservice. I can't stand any of it, because it's exploitation, and in that you are right. This was just the thread focused on a certain popular part of it.

And you are absolutely right - I do think portraying preteens with b cups as much as is done in certain anime is wrong. Namely because I've seen too many kids period portrayed in a sexual way, in both anime and the real world. But no, go ahead and attack whatever I say - it makes you look that much cooler and smarter.

I didn't accuse you of defending it - and nor was I referring to you in my "salt peter" comment. My apologies for being less than clear. However, I can't possibly think you are against it given your comments on this thread.

Oh, and sheeple? I'm sorry, but nope - I don't think I'm one of them. I know you see me that way, but then again, I think you see everyone who disagrees with you the same way.

I personally don't mind...um...how should I say it, endowed? That seems to be what people are using. Anyways, yeah, I don't mind well endowed women in anime unless (of course) it's pure fanservice. I mean, there's nothing the girl seems to be besides an object. Then again, as Goldy said, that's also kind of realistic so...

So, Nate, I think it would help you to realize that most of the people who are complaining about the big breasts in anime don't mind the size of the breasts themselves, what they (and I) don't like is when they are used for fanservice.

Big breasts, ok.
Big breasts solely for fanservice, not ok.

I understand, Nate, that you want to clarify things and make things right, but reading into what people are saying and putting words in their mouths because they accidentally said something somewhat wrong even though most everybody realizes their intentions despite the mistype is not cool.

You're a good guy, but you seem to enjoy stirring up the hornets nest at times and it's not appreciated. So please, when you see something that makes you question what they are saying, ask them nicely what they meant instead of attacking. Believe me, you'd get some good results.

Japan isn't known for large breasts. Hence the reason why it is used in anime so much. What is uncommon becomes the most desired.

The complaint with this thread here appears not to be with large bosoms but instead with fanservice. There are female characters in anime that simply have large breasts and are not the subjects of a massive amount of fanservice. A few examples I can think of are the female characters from Umineko no naku koro ni such as Jessica and the mothers.

Although Bleach does have its female characters with large breasts, the fanservice on them tends to vary. Orihime hasn't had any fanservice in quite some time.

There's also Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh. That show tends to have very little fanservice(save for your occassional pool episode).

Hmm, okay (though none of the characters in Love Hina are preteens with the exception of Sarah, though she's completely flat so she doesn't count). However, I know a 13 year old with D-cups so it does happen in real life. Should every anime character be drawn to match that? No, of course not, but when it does happen I'm willing to look the other way because it is at least somewhat realistic.

Take May/Haruka in Pokemon for example. She's got a fairly large chest for an 11 or 12 year old (I don't remember her age exactly) but it's pretty much never used for fanservice.
Oh, and sheeple? I'm sorry, but nope - I don't think I'm one of them. I know you see me that way, but then again, I think you see everyone who disagrees with you the same way.

My laughter was at your use of the word at all, not that I think you're one. It's just a stupid word is all I'm saying. I laugh at anyone who uses that word, not because I think it applies to them, but because the word is seriously just utterly dumb.
That Dude wrote: most of the people who are complaining about the big breasts in anime don't mind the size of the breasts themselves, what they (and I) don't like is when they are used for fanservice.

Okay, but then I refer back to my statement to rocklobster. Would you be okay with small/average sized breasts being used for fanservice? No, you wouldn't be. So why single out large ones? It's not even like large ones are easier to use for fanservice...look at Strike Witches or Sky Girls or Kodomo no Jikan for proof of that.
Big breasts solely for fanservice, not ok.

Fine, I accept that. But as I said, that's not what the poll asks, that's not what the thread title asks, that's not what the opening posts says. If he misspoke, fine, but then what's the point of the thread? If it's not about the size of the breasts, then this thread is really just asking "Do you hate sexual fanservice?" and that seems like a pointless question to ask on these forums, same as if I made a poll asking "Hey do you believe God exists?"

Besides, as I said, at least a few people here seem to be equating any time a female has large breasts with automatic fanservice...which isn't true at all, and really isn't true for most anime.
You're a good guy

That's debatable.
but you seem to enjoy stirring up the hornets nest at times and it's not appreciated.

Yeah, I do at times, and sometimes it's unwarranted. I admit that. However there are times when someone is clearly wrong (bkilbour with his comments on Love Hina) and I feel the need to correct them.

Looking back, I was overly harsh and very condescending in my informing him that he was wrong. This probably caused him to feel the need to defend his incorrect remarks simply because of my attitude. I do apologize for this, but I tend to go overboard when something is clearly wrong...if someone were to, say, claim that Christians were cannibals because of some verses in the Bible, that's clearly wrong, and I would be a lot more rude and condescending to that person than someone who said something like "Super Mario Bros. came out in 1982" because most people aren't going to remember an exact year of something like that.

If I seem rude about this topic, it's because I dated a girl with large breasts who hated them and felt that people looked down on her simply because of that, as if she had any control over it. There are people whose feelings could be hurt because of this thread. If someone misspoke, fine, I misspeak too (a LOT), but a person should also be willing to admit "You know, I phrased that badly, and I'm sorry that what I said could be interpreted that way." They could even add a "but you didn't have to be a jerk about it" at the end if they wanted because hey, I admit I can be a jerk at times. Most of the time. Almost all the time.

And if I seem really adamant and angry about some things people have been saying in this thread, it's only because I am. Like I said, this is a subject that has the potential to hurt and ostracize people and make them feel bad for no real good reason. That doesn't give me the right to hurt people in return, I admit that, and I'm sorry for being hurtful. However, I will not stand by and watch quietly when someone says something that could be interpreted as mean or hurtful.

But I will do my best to be more civil about it.

I'm gonna come out and support Nate.

When I saw the title of the thread, the explanation, and the opening question, I did feel a bit hurt. As a woman with a large chest, I have often felt judged by it. This thread, by ignoring the fact that there us just as much fanservice with lolis and flat-chested girls, singles out characters that are large-chested.

And I don't really feel comfortable with that.
