It may very well be likely. It all depends on how they go with the story.

If I remember correctly Kanon is a story about family so of course its going to a focus on relationships.

Whereas Togainu no Chi may not focus on the relationships at all and end up focusing on the gang stuff in a dark, futuristic Tokyo whatever. Maybe they'll have a hint here or there as tribute to the game but it may never actually touch the yaoi side of it. You can never really tell until you actually see it.

If people dropped adaptations at the sound of "bad source" then a lot of people would be missing out (probably why Nate brought up Kanon) on quite a few good things. It could always end up being some trashy romance anime or it could end up being a really good series.

Uh, that isn't exactly what Nate actually meant, or you have phrased that wrong. Togainu no Chi might have the same chance of having the BL content severely toned down or removed entirely...the same way an eroge-based anime might have the heterosexual sexual content severely toned down or removed entirely.

It's all about sales (and TV content standards). Having actual BL/yaoi content would automatically severely restrict the audience/people who would otherwise actually watch it...as people posting in this thread have proven. So I could see them removing it, but it won't really be possible to tell until it airs.

I'm not saying that Panty and Stocking is an amazing show that everyone should go watch]

Don't worry. I'm probably going to watch it as well simply because it looks so different than the usual animes we see.

This season so far appears to have a few interesting titles.

On a different thought, I fail to see how this anime panders to otakus at all.

It's not loli or moe, and last time I checked using CN style animation wasn't that hugely popular with the otaku crowd.

I also haven't seen that much toilet humor in "otaku pandering anime"

I am not saying all things with poor source material are guaranteed to be poor themselves, of course, just that source material often influences the adaption. In this case, the show might be cool or it might not. Still, I think it is fair to say that the chances of it having yaoi content are larger given that it is adapted from a yaoi game, as opposed to not being adapted from one.

Put another way, the chance of a studio injecting yaoi into a straight adaption is less than the chance of them keeping yaoi in a gay one.

My problem with Nate's comment is that he took the above statement and misconstrued it as my saying: all anime adaptions based on poor source material are bad, which is not what I said.

Oh, and Super Robot Wars does look awesome.

There is a crack theory among myself and one other that the Bakuman anime is not going to be an adaptation of the manga, but rather will be a followup of the manga about the production of the anime adaptation of the manga that is being serialized in Bakuman. This would make it deliciously meta (anime adaptation about the anime adaptation of the manga in the manga about manga publishing) and could conceivably fit within the two-cour run that is being given.

It has about a 1% chance of happening, but I would be blown away and incredibly pleased forever if this happened.

Sigh. There was a reason I quit being a writer, because apparently I am the worst person ever at trying to get people to understand me. -.-

That's not what I was saying at all. My point was this: Kanon and Air were originally hentai games. When they were turned into anime, they decided to tone that down and take all the hentai stuff out of it.

My point was that this show, Togainu no Chi, it was based on a BL game, but they may remove that content from it, same as they removed it from the Kanon and Air anime. That was really all I was saying was that the source material isn't always the best indicator of the content of the adaptation.

I mean...I dunno how you got what you thought I said out of that. Besides, from what I hear, the Kanon and Air games weren't poor material at all. I remember hearing that Air especially was VERY well written...which, like most other anime adapted from games, didn't translate well over to the anime. Yeah yeah, I know, I'm like the only person who hated the Air anime. I thought it was poorly done and confusing and unsatisfying. AWESOME music though.

But again, that doesn't make the Air game poor source material. I hear Tsukihime is a fantastic game, but the anime was also very lacking. I guess it's just hard to turn visual novels into anime for some reason (though I guess Clannad did it well?).

ヽ( ゚∀゚)人(゚∀゚ )ノ hi5 for hating Air

Yeah, visual novel to anime adaptations are tricky because of the multiple branches. In the case of Air, it was KyoAni's first time, so it was probably the roughest. From my viewings of Air, Kanon, and Clannad, I'd say they got it perfect with Clannad, likely because its story lent itself to that sort of thing in addition to it being the third time that they've done the consolidating multiple branches into one linear story rigamarole.

In the case of Tsukihime and Fate/stay night, it's probably even harder because not only are there multiple paths, but the branches build on each other. In both cases, they animated the first branch (Arcueid for Tsukihime and Fate for Fate/stay night), while the depth of both stories is in the expansion of the world and themes that the latter branches explore.

It's basically why there will never be an Ever 17 or Muv-Luv anime. These particular visual novels exploit the hell out of the multiple branching game mechanic and work it into a plot device.

Anyhow, that has very little with the concerns regarding Togainu no Chi. It is worth noting that visual novels tend to contain unsavoury content largely to get it to sell. This is fairly clear when you consider things like innocuous adaptations of h-games that have perfectly intact narratives (Air and Kanon). And as visual novels got more popular, you'll notice that later games don't contain any 18+ content (Clannad, Planetarian, and Little Busters! in the case of Key, or Mahou Tsukai no Yoru in the case of Type-Moon, or Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate for Nitro+).

Yeah, I know for Air and Kanon they later released "All-Ages" versions that removed all the hentai content (even before the anime came out I think).

And I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who hated Air. Actually, I really liked Air at first, to be honest. A lot of slice-of-life stuff except with the feathers and the ghost girl and stuff...that was pretty awesome.

Where Air made me throw up my hands and say "Okay this show sucks" was when the guy walked out of his room and got slashed in the back by a ghost and died and it went back in time and then he was a bird and the show started over except he wasn't there and I don't even know man.

Don't be so hard on yourself blkmage, until we saw the link to the trailer we didn't know quite how much crack Gainax was smoking, as there were no other indications to be had elsewhere.

Well, the movie is apparently unrelated to the TV series, though I haven't watched it so I can't say for sure.

Honestly I really didn't spoil all that much in my description. You can watch it if you want, but like I said, I found the show a bit confusing and ultimately unsatisfying. The music was great, and I liked the characters, but the problem with liking the characters is that about halfway through the show they dump all the secondary characters and focus on the main guy and girl (and her aunt to a degree), so if you like anyone other than them, you'll be really upset that the show dumps them entirely after that point.

Okay, so I really loved Air...until this. I agree that sucked majorly and I was in a rather strong state of "Are you kidding me?! What on earth!!!" bun't. Loved the rest of it enough that if I can forget this bit, I can still go back and enjoy the first part...

and yeah. that's kind of a huge spoiler, Nate... you just gave away the entire part 2 of it. :P

Togainu no Chi looks really cool! If, once again, they do take the BL bits out, which I would not be surprised if they did so. But if it starts looking iffy, can always drop it and read reviews later to see if it develops into BL or not. Reviews are good things. :)

Crunchyroll will be simulcasting three of the Fall season's newest Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, Sora no Otoshimono and Fortune Arterial: Red Promise. In addition to those current shows, thirteen other Kadokawa back-catalog series would be added to Crunchyroll's lineup in the future.

Seems they also added Squid Girl, The World God Only Knows, and Letter Bee 2. So I guess they'll actually get to stream some shows this season wwwwwwwwwww. And I'm assuming Funimation has Kuragehime because of noitaminA.

EDIT: oh hey, CR's also got the new Super Robot Wars as well

Thank you, Crunchyroll! I guess I will keep my membership after all!

But...wait...no news on Yumeiro Patissiere Season 2?! Come on, Crunchyroll, put my mind at ease! Fifty episodes of drool-inducing desserts, ridiculous baking competitions that must take millions to fund, narcissistic boys singing in the bathtub, shoujo cliches, and Yuuki Aoi making freaky noises wasn't enough!

So, yeah, there's a week left until the Fall season.

More PVs/trailers:

Bakuman

Letter Bee: Reverse

The World God Only Knows

Psychic Detective Yakumo

Star Driver commercial

I was wondering why it was taking so long for Bakuman to have a trailer or something come out. That animation...actually looks kind of cheap, coming from J.C.Staff.

That trailer for The World God Only Knows makes me sad. The premise on the writeup sounded totally awesome but the trailer was so boring and bland. Maybe it would be more interesting if I understood what they were saying? I'm still going to watch it but it looks a whole lot more "generic harem crap" than it sounded like it would be from the plot synopsis. I'd hate to have to drop a series that short but... :\

After being hinted at by some others, I'm thinking of doing a Let's Watch! for Star Driver, since it seems to have garnered a significant amount of interest. I'll probably decide for sure after the first episode airs on Sunday, though.

I am game, sir. Is it being streamed legitimately? Haven't seen any announcements as of yet.

On a semi-related note, the name of the main locale for Star Diver is a lil nod to Hokuto no Ken. Happiness.

Any interest in a Super Robot Wars thread as well?

Between this, Summer Wars, and Redline, I may be more interested in the Anime film scene this year than television.

OH GOD WHAT IS GOING ON AT 0:46? Did these animators go to the Rob Liefeld school of drawing or something? He looks like he's bending over, but the lower part of his back is almost completely straight, only to have a 90 degree angle halfway up, after which his back becomes perfectly flat.

Let's try using this as the place to talk about fall shows, which are starting now.

I just watched Panty and Stocking. It is what every one of us was saying, 2x. Let me explain.

I said the impressions I got were that it was super stylish and had a ton of production monies going into it. That is evident, but it actually looks really nice and I really like the aesthetic it's going for. Like, I can't imagine how much money they could have poured into this thing. It looks and sounds good. Like, remember how good Soul Eater's first OP looked and sounded? Well, the entire show is like that times a bunch of numbers. Definitely way exceeded my expectations.

A lot of people said that it was vulgar and low-brow. Well, it is, and it's probably a lot more vulgar and low-brow than you expected too! Panty likes having sex with men (that is actually one of her defining character traits) and she sleeps with like four guys by the time we hit the midpoint of the episode (Stocking is addicted to sugar, which is relatively far more respectable, I guess). Innuendo abounds in general conversation. They fight a poop monster and everyone vomits and the poop monster explodes and there's poop everywhere.

I might watch another episode and I might not (probably not). In any case, at this point, I can't see myself going much further than that. And you probably will not want to watch it either. Yes, I watch things, so you don't have to. This is a service I provide to you.

Yeah, I hadn't been very interested in it before and the various impressions aren't making me more interested.

Meanwhile, although it won't apparently be put up on Crunchyroll until Sunday, here's the Super Robot Wars OG - The Inspector opening.
